Desecration of the Koran, leads to attacks upon a Christian Community in Pakistan

LAHORE, Pakistan, Aug 16 (Reuters) - A Muslim crowd attacked a Christian community in eastern Pakistan on Wednesday, vandalising several churches and setting scores of houses on fire after accusing two of its members of desecrating the Koran, police and community leaders said.

The attack took place in Jaranwala in the industrial district of Faisalabad, police spokesman Naveed Ahmad said. The two Christians were accused of blasphemy, he said, adding they and family members had fled their homes.

'But let none of you suffer as a murderer,
or as a thief, or as an evildoer,
or as a busybody in other men's matters.
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian,
let him not be ashamed;
but let him glorify God on this behalf.'

If this violent reaction by Muslim's in Pakistan, was instigated by the actions of certain members of the Christian community attacked, much as the subsequent violence is to be deplored, it was brought on by the foolish behaviour of those who did the desecrating. These individuals have brought fear and the need to flee upon their families, and pain and suffering to all those whose one object is to live in peace with their neighbours and worship without fear.
