Difficulty believing in God

Hi. Does anyone have any advice. I truly want to surrender and believe with all of my heart in God. Even though my desire to believe is strong, I can't seem to let myself. Does anyone have any personal stories of how they found the Lord in their life? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx Nia

Nia Jane,

Great question! We all struggle in our "believing", faith, and trust in God. He knows you and loves you just the way you are and is there for you to lay this prayer at His feet, exactly the way you shared with us.

Years ago my wife spoke with God in the middle of the night and asked Him to take me back. Next month I was at a men's retreat (I don't even know how I got there) but while my buddy was teaching me how to row a canoe, I was afraid we were going to tip over and gave my life to Jesus Christ and when we made it back to dry land, I then realized that I became a Christian. Many years later I still don't know how to row a canoe but learned to soar like an eagle, eh?

Years ago, behind closed doors, in secret, I asked God what is the purpose of this Jesus Christ and He laid it on my heart that Jesus carries me while I learn to believe, have faith, and trust in God. Many years later Jesus still carries me while I continue to believe, have faith, and trust in God. It is a life long process, Nia Jane. But because of God you and all of us will experience a continued transformation with our Father.

Please read and meditate on Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

As i read your letter I remembered something which spoke to my heart which BobinFaiith has confirmed. In Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren says we cant surrender to God unless we know Him and trust Him which is a process as so rightly been said above.

Nia Jane I also had some issues (and sometimes still do ! who doesn't??) When I find myself in that situation I rebuke it and I grab my Bible and start reading . I also remind myself that God loves me and I start thanking Him for that.. I found this helpful I pray you do also
