Do Not Be Deceived!

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:7-8 ESV)

We who profess faith in Jesus Christ are warned all throughout the New Testament against being deceived, and this includes being self-deceived. And if we are deceived, we are mislead and we have been tricked, hoodwinked, conned and/or misinformed. Someone has convinced us that the lies are the truth and the truth is a lie. And much of this is in relation to what constitutes the true gospel and our salvation from sin (example:1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

God is not mocked. He will not be derided, mocked, sneered at, disdained, made fun of, ridiculed, ignored, scorned and disrespected. He will not be looked down upon and treated as though his words don’t matter, as though his words can just be ignored, as though they mean nothing at all, or as though his words can be twisted to teach the opposite of what his words teach. What he says he will do will take place. We cannot ignore him.

Nonetheless, this is what is taking place big time in our world today. And this is not happening just by those who make no professions of faith in Jesus Christ but by what appears to be the majority of those who profess faith in the Lord Jesus, at least here in America, who have been convinced that how they live does not matter to God, that it will not impact their salvation from sin nor their eternal life with God if they continue in sin.

But Jesus said that not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING the will of God. He taught that we must deny self, die daily to sin, and follow him in obedience, for if we do not, but we continue to live in sin, we will not inherit eternal life with God. The apostles taught the same. If sin is what we practice, and not obedience to our Lord, then we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of what we believe.

[Matt 7:13-14,21-23; Lu 9:23-26; Jn 10:27-30; Ac 26:18; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-14; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Co 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Co 10:1-22; 2 Co 5:10,15,21; Gal 5:16-24; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 4:17-32; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:1-17; Tit 2:11-14; Heb 3:1-19; Heb 4:1-13; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-2; 1 Pet 2:24; 1 Jn 1:5-10; 1 Jn 2:3-6,15-17; 1 Jn 3:4-10]

So don’t be deceived by the lies which are being disguised as truth. We cannot just give lip service to the Lord and then keep walking in sin and not in obedience to him and to his commands. Will we all live perfect lives once we believe in Jesus Christ? Probably not (1 John 2:1-2). But we are not to be those who are deliberately and habitually committing the same sins over again without change of heart and mind and behavior. We are to be those who are listening to the Lord daily and who are obeying his NC commands.

So, what this passage in Galatians 6 is teaching us is that how we live matters to God and to our salvation. Don’t be deceived into thinking that it does not! We will reap what we sow. If we sow to the flesh, we will reap corruption (decay, destruction, death). But if we sow to the Spirit, we will reap eternal life. So we cannot just make a profession of faith in Christ and then live however we want. We must die to sin and obey our Lord.

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
