Do we have guardian angels?

I have often heard from different people that we have a guardian angel that looks after us throughout our daily lives.

Oprah Winfrey has sometimes talked about "Guardian Angels"' on her television show. The more I hear & read about this topic, I realise that it is quite possible that God allows some of His angels to take care of us as we go about our daily lives.

Sometimes things seem to appear to happen just by chance in our lives, but I see it as more than that. I know that God controls everything.

I have heard time and time again from people that they have felt the closeness of an angel in times of hardship, danger, and strife.

Do you think there are guardian angels? Your comments are welcome.

I am not very sure, but I guess that God sends angels to help us out during our times of danger and when we need help. Anyways, angels carry out the Lord's commands. So they help us too..

We have guardian angels. One time i have angels help was when i was crossing a busy main road in the dark with my baby in pram and my youngest aged 4 holding unto the pram. I got to the middle of the road safely and suddenly saw the headlights of a car, they were at the pram's wheels. Suddenly, i felt myself being carried through the air to the other side of the road, along with my pram and child. I was shocked, as i looked over at the road, the car who would have knocked us down, was stationery and a young woman was standing looking over at us. I panicked and rushed home. I did not speak about this for a few years, cos i thought i had imagined it all. I relaised it was God's angels protecting us. My children are now Suzie 19 and Ricky 17. Thank you Father God. I have no doubt at all, He shall give His angels charge over you, to protect you in all your ways, least u dash ur foot upon a stone.

Thank you for your replies.

After reflecting over my life, I can also see that God and His angels have taken care of me in different situations.

An incident that happened to me about 2 years ago:

I was travelling home from a shopping centre in my car when I approached a green light at an intersection. I naturally continued on through the intersection when a car appear in my path. The other car was meant to give way to me, but did not and I smashed into that car at about 50km. My car was totally written off by the insurance company as it was badly crushed by the accident. The area that I was sitting in the car was not crushed at all. It was as if God and His angels were taking care of me.

Soon after the car accident I got out the car, only experiencing shock and relief. The other driver was not injured as well. He was a learner driver and did not give way as he was suppose to do so, as stated in our road rules.

Yes, I can see that there must be guardian angels, as God does take care of us in life's situations.

Just the fact that Oprah promotes it would make me think twice.

Because God saves us and uses angels to do so does not even imply that we have guardian angels, as perceived, each a personal guardian.

Is this scriptural?

Where in the bible does it say we have guardian angels?

Bless up!

Matthew 4:6
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone

This sounds like angels guarding us to me:-)

I believe that angels exist. Many times in my life I have experienced them.
They said that when you always do good, God sends you more angels to take care of you. That's how God loves the ones who love Him...

Angels!

YES!, we do have Guardian Angels. I have been saved from what could have been a fatal accident a number of times, I have no doubt that an angel was present.

There is book written by Billy Graham, it's title is "Angels", you can get it at any Bible Book store.

Yes, we have angels.

Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

Angles are not to be talked to, praised or prayed to. They are here to serve God for our behalf.

Angels operate only by the Word of God.

Psa 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

Fear, doubt, unbelief or anything that is not the Word of God makes them inoperative.

Speaking God's Word in faith over something or bad situation puts them into action as they have a right to operate and Satan and his minions are powerless over the spoken word.

Jesus Is Lord.

Why do so many Christians say that angels are not to be talked to? Not prayed to or praised yes, but if an angel were to show up and speak to you would you not talk back? Joshua spoke to an angel, as did Zacharias (father of John the baptist), Mary the mother of Jesus, Abraham, Jacob, Gideon, the women outside the tomb after Jesus rose. Or do you mean, not to speak out to them as in prayer?

I had one show up in my bedroom a couple of times. I didn't speak to him (I say him because he looked like a him and was very large), and he didn't speak to me. Seeing him just made me think of Jesus and my Father who loves me. I love the little surprises He sends every now and then. They expand the little box I put Yahweh into at times.

Guardian angels

Yes we have angels watching over us. Just read the 91st psalm. Hebrews 1:14 states the angels are sent to minister for the heirs of salvation. If you are born again, you are an heir to salvation so you qualifiy.

Yes Guarding Angels do exists!
I hope these few references will take you somewhere.

1. Matthew 4:6

2. Take for instance Daniel who was in the lions den.... He was a child of God..(My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me; forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
— Daniel 6:22)

3. Also Gods angels were with the Israelites throughout their journey in the wilderness: protecting and guiding them.
Some references for you;

Exodus 23:20- (Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.)

Exodus 33:2- (And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:)

Exodus 23:23- (For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.)

And there is a whole host more of scriptures that you can explore.

~~God Bless~~

I think though we may have guardian angels, the action of guarding, saving is God testing our ability. To see if, when called to see how far we are willing to push ourselves.

Guardian angels, may be very appreciated, however I can think of several thousands that need mine more than me. And of all things, Guardian Angels do not save you from death, your actions will/would save the child in Africa from starvation. Just let god move through you, if you cannot feel it dare him to.

Chatting with Angels

Eh...when one stops to consider how many *thousands* of years are covered by Scripture, the fact that the word "angel" appears only 283 times (KJV) is rather telling of how often people chat with angels of the Lord.

Having said that, if I saw something that looked like what *I'd* expect to see in an angel...I think the first thing I'd do is wait for it to speak. Then depending on what it said (because just because it looks like an angel of the Lord doesn't mean it's on our side), I'd probably toss it the test given to us in 1 John 4:1-3 ...

What's meant by "guardian angel"?

Reading all these posts, I was a little surprised that no one had really defined "guardian angel".

If the definition of "guardian angel" is "appointed angel to oversee one particular individual" then I would say there is probably no such thing, but that my thinking is specualtive because just because it's not mentioned in Scripture doesn't mean that that is how God has established His angels.

If the definition of "guardian angel" is "any angel that helps any particular individual at any particular time", then I'd say I absolutely agree because there are several references in Scripture supporting angels doing the bidding of God.

As to the aside conversation about "should we talk to angels?", it should be fairly obvious that providing an angel talks to you then you'd probably better answer. There are so many instances of angels speaking with men from Daniel to Mary to John etc. (Notice that all of the conversations between Biblical characters and angels were begun by the angels themselves. No man called out for them.)

God bless you, keep studying and draw nearer always.

Matthew 4:6

That specific passage of scripture was meant for Jesus. Satan was trying to tempt Him. That scripture in no way indicates that Jesus was preaching that angels would look after us. The original scripture that Satan was quoting is Psalm 91:11, and again it was intended for the "Coming One".

The majority of the scripture passages quoted during this thread are from the Old Testament- the old covenant. God needed a lot more messengers back then. We are in the New covenant, and everything that God has to say to us is in the bible.

While we may witness supernatural events involving angels, do not forget that Satan can take the form of one to get us to focus on angels instead of on God (idolatry) (2 Cor. 11:14). And I totally agree that if it was on Oprah, it is something you should think twice about. .Nowhere in the bible does it say angels are in control- it is always God; we do have to be aware of the enemies tactics.

Of course we do!
We cannot pass our guardian angel's bounds, resigned or sullen, he will hear our sighs.
