Does God shape your destiny by the genes you inherit?

Just a thought. . . does God allow the process of recessive genes being over-powered by dominant genes to create who you are - personality traits, interests etc. - and then see how a person with your qualities would fit best in this world. . . thus, molding your destiny? What does the Bible say about this?

Hi @Hannah Rachelle

Good question and one I haven't seen asked before here in the forums.

I don't recall anything in the Bible about genes or such. However, this I believe is irrelevant and unimportant (no disrespect intended to your question, bear with me). Our focus should be on Christ and GOD's will. We should focus on Him by reading, studying, meditating on His Word and prayer every day. We do not need to fret about our circumstances, or our past.

So my point is really genes are not important whatsoever to the plans GOD has for us and His purpose for us. His plans are not dependent on genes, nor do I recall anything related to genes being mentioned anywhere in the Bible.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply Chad!

I see your point and agree with you. There is so much that our minds can't comprehend about God creation or our eyes simply see past HIs marvelous details. If we look close we can find more of Him. I do believe that looking into this can help a lot in understanding the nature of God and how He shapes us, but as seen in history, it was man trying to understand God over just trusting Him that brought destruction.

GOD makes us a NEW CREATURE. if we are willing? so the flesh really plays no part in us being His child or not. Also GOD can change our flesh at any times and has many before and now. The flesh is weak and least bought of our being. Seeing how it not eternal and part of this planet.

2Co_4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Certainly God is doing something:
Psalm 139:13-14 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb

This also brings some perspective on the abortion debate, should we murder an unborn child just because they have a deformity or disease? Although it is not a black and white issue, the answer should generally be "no".

After we are saved, we still retain our DNA, our personality, and our traits. But over time God changes these and whether it is by changing our hormones, DNA, or what.

Studies of identical twins separated at birth has shown that DNA can change over a lifetime depending on our choices and our environment. For example if we inherit the DNA of an athlete but we eat fatty foods, and donuts over our lifetime, our genes can change, and our children may be obese.

Our flesh is not changed .It the Same old dying weak flesh. It rots away and returns to the planet it of.

Not to say we cannot be healed . We can. I been healed lots and lots of times. But it all by faith and OBEYING what HE says to do.

I know age can change us. But I also see Moses did not change after growing old. But He did see GOD . Hard too say what really took place on that mountain? Like to have whatever it was happen to me .

Romans 9:20-21 "Who you think you are to question God? Does the clay have the right to ask the potter why he shaped it the way he did? Doesn't a potter have the right to make a fancy bowl and a plain bowl out of the same lump of clay?"
This is basically saying God made us the way that he wanted us to be.Lets say for example God was to make you with messed up body part ... That's what God gave you
i hope this helps :shade::shade:

God is not handling or taking part in everyone body before birth. Those that have rejected JESUS AS LORD are pretty much on there own.

Lots of bad things are taking place all the time on earth .Because of sin. Because of this imperfect world and our imperfect bodies. We can only blame sin. Not the Creator.

This world is not the world the LORD CREATED . It been changed by sin. Nothing here is prefect and nothing is born perfect. Some things for lots of reason are worse than others. It not any persons fault or not the LORD fault.

Think God ever makes imperfect things is not Truth. He only makes perfect things.

When He said? He formed Him in His mother womb. He was with Him then . But He did not make Him a New creature. He was still just a normal person. Sure He too had imperfections ,like all of us do.

So easy for us to misunderstand things?

This is certainly part of how we are fearfully and wonderfully made...however after the fall and sin became a predominate lifestyle the propensity for a disturbed genome (via epigenomic influences) grew more and more a reality...so yes God can abs does use this but sometimes what genetically results is the throw of dice by previous generations...He had allowed it but not caused it. Jesus Christ opened up Salvation too All mankind. Who ever is willing ? It does not matter the body or life we are born into.
The problem is in many cases? The more we have the less we might think we need our Creator.

Everyone on earth is seeking LOVE. Because we were made by LOVE to Love and be LOVED. Many suffer in relationships thinking it about LOVE? It a trick. The world cannot Love with a pure perfect LOVE. Only after we are Born again. Do we get His type perfect LOVE within us so we can Love with that pure Perfect LOVE. Wanting nothing in return for our deeds.

God was mainly dealing with mankind in the flesh in the old testament.
Now He dealing with mankind in the eternal [Our spirit]

Now there are promises in the old testament He made , that He will keep .

We have all been created by God, each with a distinctive and unique DNA sequence.

God knows every heart intimately, God knows exactly what to do in every single life
that He has ever created. Trust in the author of our salvation Jesus Christ, He is the author
of our DNA.

God has a Perfect will and Permissive will.

in His grace , He has allowed imperfection . Our flesh birth is imperfect. God does not make imperfect things.

We cannot blame God ever for the type of flesh we are Born into. His perfect will of course is No flaws ,no weakness ,no suffering of any kind and no sickness.

God allowed all the flaws of this world out of Pure prefect Love ,which gives us Grace.
Some are born suffering ,others with great problems in there flesh body ?

We do not fully understand it all. But We know He truly LOVES mankind and knows and wants to make each a New Perfect creature ,that will never suffer or know anything but LOVE and joy and perfect peace.

Our time on Earth is but a mere moment in time. Nothing really . But we count it so dear? And it is in a way? Because the rewartds will be great and eternal or the suffering may be great and eternal?

lots of Good answers here ,,,i believe according to Gods word He made me with a pourpose and a plan in mind ..he equiped me for a day such as this ..not sure if the gene pool comes into play but my God knows the exact ingrediants needed to produce his plans in me and if genes have a play in it so be it ..IN THE MEAN TIME ...praise the Lord of Heaven and earth for numbering the hairs on my head to the fullfilling of His will in my life .....Rev

Amen @Rev T.S.Perkins

We are fearfully and wonderfully made....and our genes are just one small part of His beautifully intricate engineering
And how amazing it is to know that He numbers the hairs of our head.

And even more glorious to know that one day we will be changed to be like Him

I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psalm 139:14

Of course GOD saw it all. but He has not made all these babies and people with all these problems. Sin has done that . It NOT GOD fault. God only makes perfect things ,without any flaws.
Lots are born with serious problems. GOD had Nothing to do with it.

Sin entered the Earth and Death begin and All sickness. Each generation is getting weaker and more sickly. Just as the Earth it self is slowly getting in worse shape, until if allowed too ? Dies.

Rom_8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Meaning it slowly dying from Sin.

Rom_6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Has not changed , Everything is still dying, except the New Creatures , who cannot die , Because they cannot sin.

I would say that in a way your genes do shape your destiny, for example, hereditary diseases can have a huge impact on somebody's life. So if you believe God is responsible for the person you are in all entirety (Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed you in the womb I knew you) then it only makes sense to assume that through your genes God determines your destiny to an extent.

Whatever your genes, circumstances, struggles, etc... Jesus is above them all.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Regardless of our genetic make-up, we are all made in the image and likeness of God. However, I believe that God nudges us towards our destiny. The uniqueness of our individual DNA offers us a wide range of opportunities to fulfill it. As Christians, our ultimate goal is to glorify His name for as long as we live and breathe. By giving us the freedom to use these opportunities in whatever capacity we can, we, hand in hand with God, continuously shape our destiny. And there lies the essence of Christianity --- the freedom to serve God in whatever capacity we can.

I know it appears very hard for us . But healing is part of our life in Christ JESUS . I been healed lots of times and from some serious junk and I am No More than any in His body and church .
He no respecter of persons. It has nothing to do how good we appear to others or not?

But it so simple it appears too hard ?
Just as salvation is so simple .but few have it?

Faith does not work by it self. It must reveal some kind of Action?

I know when I broke my angel . I said LORD , You going too heal this or not? He said ? You going to get up and walk by faith or not?

I said yes LORD. I had to take three very painful steps before I was healed. It still looked very bad but was healed . We Do not live by sight ,but by Faith .
Sight might tell us one thing? But Faith tells us that not Truth .

We are taught from babies too live by sight. It hard for us to then live by Faith .
