Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:25-26 NKJV
During His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus delivered some comforting, challenging teaching on the subject of worry (Matthew 6:25-34), concluding with this important question: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (v 27).
The world today offers much that can be reasons for concern or worry. Will there be a big economic downturn in the near future? Will war break out, and will it affect the United States? When and where will the next devastating natural disaster strike? What about the next pandemic? And it doesn’t help that so many modern-day “prophets” deliver almost-daily predictions of doom.
In today’s scripture verses, Solomon offers some great wisdom for those given to worry about future events. Don’t fear or worry about sudden calamites, for the Lord is in control of all things—including natural disasters. And even if what you see as a worst-case scenario becomes reality, you can take heart, knowing that God promises to be with you always.
Prayer: Lord, sometimes I find myself worrying about what could happen in the future. Help me to rest always in the truth that You are in control of all things and that You love and care for me.
