God told his people, "If you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble" Num 33:55 NIV
Was God being uncharitable?
No....He just understood that if his people hung out with Caananites, they would pick up their habits, seek their approval, live by their values, and end up worshipping their god's! Thats why he laid down his laws so clearly.
John Maxwell said "You'll aquire the vices and the virtues of your closest associates. The fragrance of their lives will pervade yours" He's right.
You can tell yourself that a bad relationship will not hurt you. or that your goodness will rub off onto them. But who are you kidding?
If you put on a pair of white gloves and went into your backyard and began to pick up dirt....the dirt would'nt get glovy, but the gloves would get dirty. Right?
We have to keep awake! A toxic relationship is like a malignant cell, if left unchecked, it will rob you of health. Cervantes who wrote Don Quixote said....."Tell me your company, and I will tell you who you are"
Take a look at the influences upon your life today. They are doing two things
(1) Moulding you
(2) Motivating you
If a constant drip can wear away a stone, then wrong influences can undermine your ideals.
But you are not a stone....you can move
