Corrie Ten Boom wasn't a particularly striking-looking woman. She certainly wasn't anything comparable to Anna Nicole Smith or Britney Spears... Thank God!
Corrie was told by a pastor of a large church that she would never be a speaker. She had survived the Holocaust and Auschwitz and forgiven her tormentors, those that killed her father and her sister, Betsy.
But this pastor (whatever his name was) could not see anything unusual or appealing about her, so his conclusion was that God was not calling her to be a public speaker. Being a woman, she was probably seeking glory or perhaps "imagining things".
But God had spoken to Corrie and seethed her heart with a fire, a gentle fire full of God's big and powerful love.
I guess that pastor must have felt pretty stupid once Corrie was booked up at all the churches in the United States and Europe for the next 10 years for speaking engagements and had all her books coming out onto the shelves of bookstores. Then a movie was made from her true autobiography, "The Hiding Place".
Seems to me about that time, the pastor probably wanted to find a hiding place for himself.
Don't let people discourage you when God calls you to a work. People are not in charge of you. God is. Depend upon Him. He saw something in You that He likes. He wants to use you, because He loves you and He trusts in you that your life will bring Him glory as you lean upon Him.
Will you listen to men (and women?) Or will you hear God's call and answer Him? It's you that will make the difference. Get back up on your feet, brush the dust off your pants (or skirt), and walk with your shoulders square, your eyes set upon the mountains, the sunlight falling down on your face. Jesus loves you. He wouldn't have called you if He didn't think you could do it, but He also knows that you can't do it... alone.
Joshua 1:4 "Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great Eurphrates River--all the land of the Hittites--and west to the Mediterranean Sea." (Notice that He tells Joshua specifically which land this will involve.)
v. 5: "No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or forsake you." (Did you hear that? "I will not leave you or forsake you." )
v. 6,7: "Be strong and courageous, for you will distribute the land I swore to their fathers to give them as an inheritance. Above all, be strong and very courageous to carefully observe the whole instruction My servant Moses commanded you."
Stand tall and be courageous. Take courage from the Father. He is not limiting you, sister or brother. You are limiting Him when you say "no" to Him. Don't say, "Later, God." Just follow where He leads you today. I guarantee He'll open some door for you when the right time comes.
