double standard

It's been said (and I believe this can be applied especially to Christianity) that the best things in life aren't things at all.......rather relationships (building existing ones, and starting new ones......this would be friendship) and experiences, fellowship, learning new things, helping others, and increasing in wisdom (this would include the intellectual kind, 'book knowledge', 'street smarts', and spiritual)

Yes the relationship thing includes your relationship with God.

However there seems to be a double standard in the church. It's said we shouldn't live a materialistic lifestyle, and for the things of this world.

However what frustrates me most is what is that what seems to define a successful Christian in contemporary churches and mainstream Christianity is.....

The status they have in the church (what position they hold)

A college degree or being 'well educated'.

Christians seem to automatically jump to this conclusion that a Christian who has a ton of material things and is living the American dream is immediately happy and successful, and that's what is important.

The Church dosn't set a standard on what success is or isn't...thats a worldly thing and a "human" thing, and yes, there are "worldly humans" in the Church.

quick question, if you leave the church in question or any other church where this is happening, will the situation change, does God want to use you to make a change there or is He letting you know it's time to move on? That's between you and God.

Just a thought, hopefully helpful.

Your right , thats between you and God. Definetly something to take to the Lord in Prayer and even to the Pastors of the Church, either way , a Prayer matter.
