The latest Republican presidential contender to throw his hat in the crowded ring for 2016 — along with Senator Ted Cruz, as reported by the Inquisitr — is Ben Carson.
Carson made his run for president known, reports the USA TODAY, when the retired neurosurgeon told WPEC-TV, a TV station out of Florida, that his famous name will be another name added to the 2016 Republican presidential race when the announcement becomes official on Monday.
The 63-year-old Carson is author of Gifted Hands, an autobiography that was also turned into a movie — a film that displayed the hard scrabble life of the man who ended up being a gifted surgeon, one able to speak the language of science and faith at the same time. Along with Carson, the NPR reports that he will likely be joined by former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina — as well as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
“I’m willing to be part of the equation and, therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States of America.”
The formal announcement from Carson should come in his hometown of Detroit during an event on Monday. Carson was a staunch opponent to President Barack Obama.
Carson’s famous 2013 National Prayer Breakfast speech has garnered plenty of views on YouTube.
As reported by the Christian Post, Carson’s beliefs and work as a doctor also drove him to call abortion “human sacrifice,” and liken the large number of abortions in the 21st century to the “heathen” types of tactics of former civilizations that practiced infanticide
Carson recently found himself embroiled in a small amount of controversy when the presidential hopeful had to apologize for admitting to plagiarism claims for another book he penned, titled America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great. According to the Huffington Post, it was a BuzzFeed article that exposed writings from the book were taken from websites like Socialismsucks.
