Hi all,:icon_biggrin:

As the festive season is upon us I have included some non-alcoholic cocktails for those of us who will be designated drivers, those who have to look after kids over the festivities or just people fancying a nice tasting drink!

These cocktails were originally produced first by the Alcohol Advisory service and then by the National Health Service in the UK. You may wish to use them as they are or experiment with them/improve on them to your own tastes! Enjoy!

GluhweinA lovely warm drink rather like mulled wine
• 1 bottle of non-alcoholic red wine
or red grape juice
• Sugar to taste
• Half a lemon, sliced
• 1 stick of cinnamon
• ½ teaspoon cloves
• 1 orange sliced
• Extra orange and lemon slices
Combine all ingredients, except the
extra orange and lemon slices, in a
saucepan. Heat gently and simmer
for 20 minutes. Strain into a
heatproof bowl or jug and garnish
with orange and lemon slices.

Mrs. Claus’s Delight Orange yellow drink with a piquant sweet and sour background.

• 2 parts grapefruit juice
• 2 parts apple juice
• 1 part orange juice
• Ice cubes
Mix ingredients well and chill. Pour
over ice cubes and serve.

God Bless

thanks. maybe i will try to make the second one sometime (easier to make).

Thank you for the recipes, I'm always looking for new tastes. But one word of warning: non-alcoholic wine actually has a small percentage of alcohol. To anyone driving beaware of that small dose of alcohol. I think in most countries you cannot have any amount of alcohol inside you or it cost fines.

Mouse,

Sorry for the late reply recently returned back from Egypt and just checked my mail.

For future reference you can always use the grape juice as suggested above, so it is not a problem if you have difficulty getting hold of non-alcoholic wine for you or your guests.

I am fairly sure that if you are refering to the fines that you can get for drink driving they do take into acount small trace amounts of alcohol for people taking cough medicine etc..... In the UK 80mg is the legal limit for driving but this limit varies depending on which part of the world you are in.

I think it is important to clarify that there is a difference between non-alchoholic (which I mention above) and low alcohol wine.

For further clarification officially for us in the UK:

'non alcoholic' is just that; no alcohol at all.
‘alcohol free’ is for drinks not above 0.05% abv;
‘dealcoholised’ is not above 0.5% abv, and;
‘low alcohol’ is not above 1.2% abv, after which duty is payable, and a selling licence required.

However, always check the bottle before purchasing and be kind enough to tell your guests what the fraction of a percent is (if any) before serving the wine you have chosen.

Happy Holidays and thanks for the comment.

God Bless and happy new year.
