I have never heard anyone give an example or explanation of this.
I have even heard people of to day saying it of someone, but they never say how they're going to do it.

There was a certain man in the Corinthian Church who was having sexual relations with his father's wife (his stepmom). Everybody knew what was going on but nobody wanted to say anything about it. Paul tells this Church to deliver him over to satan for the destruction of his flesh.

1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1Co 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1Co 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

How is this done? Do we pray to satan to come and take this guy away?

1Co 5:5 Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.

Throwing a person out from an assembly of believers is delivering one over to the devil. There is safety when you are associated with other believers who pray for your well-being. The problem is we are NOT supposed to pray for people who are living in known open sin!

1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

1Jn 5:16 If you see a fellow believer sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life. But there is a sin that leads to death, and I am not saying you should pray for those who commit it.

This man was sinning a sin that leads to death and Paul said we should not pray for that person.
The reason is.......

2Ti 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2Ti 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

This man had already been taken captive of the devil without having the Church do anything.

Removing such a person from the Church brings home to this man the seriousness of his sins. If nobody ever said anything it would have continued. Just think what effect it had on the whole congregation if it had continued.

1Co 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Eventually, this guy did repent and he recovered himself from the snare of the devil but not until after he was removed from the Church.
