There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil. Job 1:1 ESV
Job persevered when he was told to give up. He hung on when he was told off. He trusted God when told he’d been abandoned. The advice he received could have led to rebellion. This same man was described as blameless, upright, God-fearing, and one who resisted evil.
Job faced personal endurance because he was faithful to God. Satan didn’t believe anyone could be as faithful as God described Job, so he was allowed to test Job, and this book of endurance follows Job’s story.
Sometimes the need to endure is based on choices you’ve made. Sometimes endurance is a test because of the choices of others. Some endurance challenges have their root elsewhere. You don’t have to spend as much time discovering why you must endure. This thinking focuses on the past and diminishes the available energy to walk toward your future.
A marathon isn’t filled with people who cannot endure. A positive workforce isn’t populated by people who give up easily. For Christians, it’s faith in a good God that welcomes a positive outcome at the end of an endurance.
Prayer: Lord, maybe it’s less important for me to discover why I endure and remember that this journey means I can walk closer to the One who endures with me. Let’s persevere together.
