"And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9 ESV

After a lifetime of serving God, David finally distilled his lessons into a powerful charge for Solomon. While Solomon could hide himself behind his palace walls and powerful title, he couldn’t hide himself from God. God would perceive the sincerity of his actions and search his secret thoughts.

Today’s promise is simple one. Seek and you will find. Jesus assured His listeners of as much. Yet, it’s not just what you seek out that God looks at. God sees your thoughts, desires, and inner motivations. There is nothing to hide before God.

Perhaps that is unsettling for you, but it’s also an opportunity. If you have not gotten your heart right before God, now is your opportunity to confess your faults. God won’t be surprised anyway! As you begin to seek God anew, you can have confidence that He will not hide from you. That doesn’t mean God will show up at the times or in the ways you desire or expect. Rather, it means that God is always near, whether or not you are aware of Him.

Prayer: Lord, search my heart and sustain me as I seek You today.
