And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world--to every nation, tribe, language, and people. "Fear God," he shouted. "Give glory to him. For the time has come when he will sit as judge. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water." Revelation 14:6-7 NLT

Today, we celebrate how the Creator was born into the world His hands made. We marvel at the holy God who made Himself into the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He will judge the world with righteousness, and everyone will give Him the glory He deserves.

When we think about the joys of Christmas, our minds gravitate toward gifts and family togetherness. We don’t think about God’s righteous judgment or how we are called to fear Him. But read today’s passage again. Notice the “Good News” the angels proclaim at the end of all things.

Christmas is larger and deeper than gifts and family togetherness. It is a call to fear God and give Him glory. He, whose holiness requires complete separation from sin, was born to die for our sins so we can join His family. Jesus, born this day in human frailty, will take His rightful place as judge over all creation.

The Good News has come to pass. Fear God. Give Him glory. Merry Christmas!

Prayer: Jesus, You are the true gift who rescues me from what I rightly deserve.

In truth,

I don't think He wanted to be judge over all creation.

In Genesis it says 'and the LORD repented that He had made man.'

That's the broken heart of the LORD our God...

I could be wrong, but I tell you this too, that the Gospel is directly against anyone who seeks to rule over or have authority over their family, e.g. brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, neighbors...

'Just men made perfect."

Our God likely had a desire deeper than we will know as we live on the earth to fellowship with us to such a degree that we are no longer in need of a judge, but instead are fully capable of engaging our Father and giving Him Glory.

Perhaps, in the end, He will say that He is no longer repented of us, for that we love Him and submit to His authority and obey Him to bring gladness also to His heart.

Have a merry Christmas.
