The first time I ate this it just knocked me off my feet.
I have to add though that it was made by s.o. who had made many crumbles before and knew what she was doing, so bare that in mind and don't be disappointed when ii doesn't turn out to be the best desert you ever had right away.
I made a few since August 07 when I got the recipe & it got better with each try.
So, enough talking, here you go:
fruit crumble
To serve 4 people generously,
900g of ripe fruit (you can use any fruit you like)
80g - 85g sugar (depending on how sweet you want it to be)
100g plain flour
50g ground almonds or rolled oats (I prefer using almonds)
100g butter
Wash and cut up fruit into bite size pieces, take out any stones or peel and core apples.
Place fruit in large, shallow oven proof dish and sprinkle over 2 tablespoons of sugar (or more/less, up to you), plus 2 tablespoons of water.
Taste the fruit first to see how sweet it is before adding sugar but do put some in, because this mixes with the water to make a nice syrup.
Rub butter into flour and ground almonds with your fingertips until it resembles crumbs, now stir in the rest of the sugar.
Scatter the crumble over the fruit and bake in a preheated oven, 200 degrees centigrade (400 degrees fahrenheit or gas mark 6) for about 30min or so, until the top is crisp and golden and some of the juices from the fruit habe bubbled up through the crumble.
My advice is to also make some vanilla custard, but make sure it's not too sweet. Put hot crumble in a bowl or on a plate, then pour a bit of hot custard on it... and enjoy!
