Well I grew up in a Baptist church who believed that gifts such as tongues and prophecy were to end until the end times where Jesus says they will appear again when he pours out his Spirit. They were only meant to help fulfill prophecy and to start the church. Right now I personally believe that the so called "speaking in tongues" of today is just a trap from Satan. I believe yes, it is Satanic...however my friend is very convincing. Rest assured, no I have not given into anything, I still stand true to my beliefs on this issue.
My question to you is...are the people of today who claim to speak in tongues REALLY speaking in tongues? Or is it demonic and self-deceiving?
How about prophecy? Deliverance? Healings?
What are the Scriptural back ups and references behind this issue? If my friend happens to be right, it would be wrong to deny the gift of tongues, however if I am right, it would be wrong to encourage the usage of tongues.
Any help would be extremely appreciated.
