Gifts of Healing

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1Corinthians 12:9

Greetings,

have you ever noticed that the Bible says, gifts of healing?

If so, what is your understanding of the plural, gifts?

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.


Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
to another faith by the same Spirit;
to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
to another the working of miracles;
to another prophecy;
to another discerning of spirits;
to another divers kinds of tongues;
to another the interpretation of tongues:

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will.

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

another way to ask is, why "the gifts of healing" and not 'the gift of healing'?

Can i add, in verse 1 the word gifts is not in the original text/Greek but has been added, from what i understand, in order to help the understanding flow? and was included in italics for transparency, in the KJV.
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

*As a side note, I would like so much for gifts of healing for quite a few people and admit that i would like some for myself as well.

I have wondered about this. I do not know for sure. I have heard...

It's possible some people need emotional healing. Some people need spiritual healing. Some people need physical healing of the body.
I have seen some people are better at heallng things like arthritis and gout, other people are better at healing things like cancer and diabetes.
Yet others seem to be good at healing sickness, soreness, and back pain.

So maybe this is what is meant by "gifts".

some translations are literal and more correct to the original Greek
1Cor 12:1 Now concerning the spirituals, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
12:9 to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, in the one Spirit;

I believe this is simply plural because people often need more than one gift of healing - I myself have enjoyed multiple healings over the years;
also one could say this verse teaches that when a person is healed in body there is also other healings as well - for God can heal our hearts, our souls, our minds, our bodies, our lives, our faith ...

Maybe the word "diversity" needs more attention given to it. In the contents in which it is written. It seems to take on, two roles and those roles are prevalent in each gift.

(Geneva Bible 1587) for emphasizing the word "diversity"(1 Corinthians 12)
4Now there are diuersities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are diuersities of administrations, but the same Lord, 6And there are diuersities of operations, but God is the same which worketh all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is giuen to euery man, to profite with all. could not the meaning simply be that there were/are 'many' gifts of healing to be ministered? {not saying how many, but i think you understand?}

Reading the Gospels, Jesus went about, doing good... healing many/all.

Contextually it would be gifts....He was speaking to a group, of a group...Several people, each having a gift, when looked at as a group....I have a gift....You have a gift....We have gifts.
