Giving Honor to Mothers
On this day that we pause to honor mothers, let's take some time to give honor to all the mothers who strive to reflect the light of the glory of Christ. In Paul's second letter to his protege, Timothy, he reminds him of his authentic faith that had passed down to him from his grandma to his mother and then to Timothy. Now Timothy and his role as a young pastor may be the focus of the letter, but think about the legacy of his grandma. Jesus once said, "You are the light of the world... Let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and glorify God." In this context, he compares our living faith with a lamp on a lampstand that illumines the whole household. Certainly, Timothy's grandma let her light shine in such a way that her whole family came to the Light of Christ.
Are you living in such a way that you are a "luminary" in your home? Does your life reflect the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ? Perhaps this helps explain the verse that speaks of the believing spouse sanctifying the unbelieving spouse and making their children holy. (1 Cor 7:14) Even if you are the only believer in your home, your holy light purifies the entire household! Your family members are 'blessed by association' as you reflect the light of Christ in your home. In Philippians 2 we read, "Be innocent and pure as God's perfect children, who live in a world of corrupt and sinful people. You must shine among them like stars lighting up the sky, as you offer them the message of life." God be with you always...
