Does anyone have experience of overcoming the sin of gluttony and comfort eating? I'd be really grateful for any advice or to hear testimonies of how God helped you overcome this.

I have prayed before and have been ok for short periods -but it is something I have had a problem with for many years now together with the accompanying weight problem.

It would be helpful for me to know what has helped you in the past. You mentioned that you have 'been ok for short periods'. :)

What has helped you conquer this before?
and
What has scuppered your success?

Dear Diamondlight,

Only the Lord knows all the reasons - I've been reading about fasting and believe that this is important.

I think I need to seek the Lord more.

I know that God is good and faithful and think I should have sought Him more before i posted - I just was hoping I'd hear people speak about their experiences.

Shalom,

Yeshualives

I am sending you a PM regarding this issue.
Many blessings in His Name,
your brother Larry.

Yeshualives first you must give this up to God, let him be in control. When we're in control we fail, and our failures prevent us from trying whole heartedly. Our disappointments make us even more insecure and healing is sometimes impossible.

The problem with food in our society is that we look at food as an activity, when food should be for survival only. This is very hard when we're constantly bombarded with images of food and the happiness in the faces of those eating it. Then we have the images of those unnatural skinny people, and photoshop silhouettes.

Our modern society and media are enemies to those with insecurities and eating habits.

. The first thing you can do is control the food in your house.
. Buy what you need
. Reduce already made foods ( tv dinners ), when food is fast it's more accessible.
. Increase fruits and veggies
. drink water
. for every urge to eat when stressed, eat an apple and listen to some worship music
. Finally LOVE YOU, we're so afraid to be considered vain, but you must love you, treat yourself, date yourself, me time....
. Find out God's purpose for your life, and fulfill it.

There are healing ingredients in natural raw foods, you may have a vitamin deficiency, causing your low energy and your body is leaning towards the sugary junk synthetic foods, when it's really crying out for raw natural fruits and veggies. God made these foods for us, with great benefits.

I don't know how much you weigh, but use this chart, and also see a nutritionist, or doctor on what's best for your body FRAME and bone structure. We all differ.

Height and Weight Chart - height weight chart, weight height chart

If this does not work, then you say..."In the name of Jesus you demonic spirit of gluttony must leave, for my body is the temple of God, and a man can not serve to masters, leave in the name of Jesus for within me is the Holy spirit and for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

Just to add, there's no fast remedies to a bad day, bad experience, or healing from the past. Trying to get a quick fix is impossible. Sometimes we just have to dust it off, bring it out from under the table and face it head on. Living with unresolved issues is dangerous to our spiritual and physical health. Ask God to reveal to you unresolved issues in your life, when they are revealed, examine and embrace all the emotions you feel, then tell yourself it's ok for me to have these feelings, but it's not healthy for me to hold on to them...so now I must release them. In doing this you have removed the junk allowing the Holy Spirit to move freely. We all need a spiritual enema from time to time.

Love you in Christ and God bless

I didn't imagine for one moment that you had not sought God about this, i was imagining you had done both, posted and sought Him. (smiles)

I was asking for things you have done that have helped you in the past, when you've had a good few weeks for example as you mentioned.

Often it is knowing what has helped us (in our thoughts) and also knowing what has hindered us (in our thoughts) that gives us real change because we can do more of what helps and are less caught off guard by what doesn't help us (if we're aware of what it is - often people are not aware prior to their failures)
