Have you no respect for me? Why don't you tremble in my presence? I, the LORD, define the ocean's sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set. Jeremiah 5:22 NLT
With the exception of the great flood of Genesis, the seas have kept to their God-ordained limits since the third day of creation. That’s when the Lord decreed, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear” (Genesis 1:9). If God sets parameters for His creation, they’ll be obeyed.
The physical world follows God’s orders without complaint. Only human beings, made in God’s image but possessing free will, resist His good and wise direction.
Even at that, God still sets protective limits, “A king’s heart is like streams of water in the Lord’s hand,” the Proverbs say. “He directs it wherever He chooses” (21:1). “The nations rage like the raging of many waters,” Isaiah wrote. “He rebukes them, and they flee far away” (17:13).l
When it seems like the world is spinning out of control, it isn’t…God is completely aware of everything that happens and superintending it. We may not understand or even like what we see. But we can trust that even as circumstances crash like breakers, they will never go beyond God’s parameters.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for protecting me with Your wise and powerful boundaries.
