Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord, Which You swore to David in Your faithfulness? Psalm 89:49 LSB
Let’s check back in with Ethan the psalmist today. His bad day continues. If you take what you think is true about Christianity, then Ethan’s words don’t seem to match that truth. But his words are in the Bible, the inspired Word of God.
If you believe that Christians never struggle, then you will be challenged by reality. If you think you will never experience loneliness, then you might be challenged again today. Ethan wrote honestly about not feeling God’s love and not seeing His faithfulness. Was Ethan right? No. Was he being honest? Yes. But his feelings didn’t match God’s truth. You can take heart based on these truths. God doesn’t leave or abandon His people—truth. God has always been faithful—truth. God’s love never ends—truth.
God’s truth will never fail you, but your feelings might. The truth is God’s job, but feelings show you how human you actually are. Truth creates sound decision-making. Feelings do not. When your feelings are confused, take heart in God’s truth.
Prayer: I need to remember that Your truth can be trusted, Lord, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Give me that kind of trust even when what I experience makes it feel as if I’ve been abandoned.
