I just got back from a screening of God On My Side, which is a 'documentary' from Australian TV personality Andrew Denton. He's a pretty funny guy, but in this one he kind of sits back. (Unfortunately, I get the feeling he sits back with intention of letting the Chrsitians 'crucify' themselves, but hopefully it made him think about Jesus with an open mind).
Now, as I saw it, the film was meant to be representing Christianity from a serious point of view, with some huge Evangelist convention in Texas as the centrepiece.
In parts, it is highly effective at 'translating' Christianity for the non-believer. Other times, it is very ambiguous, which contributes to the misconceptions and outright stupid representations of Christianity to the world, though not deliberately I feel, but rather because the answers provided to good questions were hit and miss.
I think if they had consulted all of use here on the forums, we could have provided the specifics required to clear up the issues and make the audience wonder if Christianity really is "stupid" after all...I say this because there were quite a few snorts of disgust and laughter, especially in segments involving the topic of homosexuality. However, when it covered Israel, current events and prophecy everyone was silenced. I was praying that they might be seeing the reality of the situation our world is in.
Overall it was not as effective as I would want God's Truth to be portrayed. While it answers some questions, others aren't sufficiently explained. I think you can present a very strong logical argument for the truth of the Bible as God's Word, before faith and trust have to kick in fro you to 'get it', but this only made about 4 out of 10 on my scale of convincing.
Worth checking out just to see that there are a lot of people out there coming together with the sole purpose of trying to spread the Word. It's inspiring to see God at work.
God Bless.
