Delegates of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are to tackle whether to adopt
gender-inclusive language for worship of the divine Trinity along with the
traditional ''Father, Son and Holy Spirit study panel said the classical
language for the Trinity shouldn't be diminished, but advocated "fresh ways
to speak of the mystery of the triune God" to "expand the church's
vocabulary of praise and wonder."

One reason is that language limited to the Father and Son "has been used to
support the idea that God is male and that men are superior to women," the
panel said.

Conservatives object that the church should stick close to the way God is
named in the Bible.

Among the feminist-inspired, gender-inclusive options:

- "Mother, Child and Womb"

- "Lover, Beloved, Love"

- "Creator, Savior, Sanctifier"

- "Rock, Redeemer, Friend"

- "King of Glory, Prince of Peace, Spirit of Love."

Two professors at the Presbyterians' Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Andrew
Purves and Charles Partee, said there is potential danger that "we not only
lose the ground for our language for God, we in fact lose the Trinity. We
lose God."

"We do not need a diluted, metaphorical Trinity; rather, we need our
confidence in the Christian doctrine of God to be restored," they said.

We need revival. We can pray asking the LOrd to send the Holy Spirit, turning the hearts of men back to God.

Great topic brother Stephen. I, like most of you have always wondered why "believers" feel the need to do anything but what GOD clearly laid down in Scripture. Why the need to modify? Who are we to change what GOD says? His name is beautiful and His many names mentioned in Scripture should be spoken as read.

Quite sad. Fresh ways by adjusting the way we refer to GOD? I honestly disagree with this "panel". Maybe I've misunderstood their ideal, but as I understand it and read it, they are trying to come up with new names for GOD. Wrong route.

1 Peter 1:24-25
24"All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
25but the word of the Lord remains forever."

The WORD of the Lord remains forever, not some but all of Scripture.

We are free in Jesus Christ! Let us call Him by what He calls Himself! Let us be free naturally when we praise and worship Him
without the need to go by man made ideas, phrases and so forth

I am worried about these proposed alternatives.

They don't seem to be trying to adjust the terminology of the trinity to make it more accesible to women, they seem to be redefining the entire understanding of the trinity.

And that is very dangerous.

From a woman's perspective. I am not so insecure with myself or my standing in society, to feel that the Trinity needs to be described in any other way in which is presently described, ie Father, son, holy spirit. Would we not be in danger of prescribing to a paganist mother nature type view of the world if we did decide to alter these to man-made/woman-made words.

I feel nervous when so called man-made interpretations are put onto the words of the bible which do not seem just or right in the modern day situations. I believe that is when women feel allienated and marginalized. I feel that it is a privilege for a person to minister not a right. There are men who shouldn't be allowed to be in that role and women who shouldn't, as it takes a special quality of person to do this important job.

Anyone who does not acknowledge that women had an important and sometimes pivital role in the early church as well as in the church today, is deluding themselves. We are not just useful for making the tea!!!

God Bless

I think Chad said it quite clear and concise, there needs to be no more intepretation to the Word of God than the Word itself. I strongly agree with Chad's view.

My own view is similar. I think that it has become a sad time in the world of 2006. People form wordly bodies to intervene in God's plan for human kind, with their sciences and way out thinking they have diluted God beyond existence. The so called church of today is doing the same. We as Christians are the ones who are left with the recourse of their actions. More and more people become confused with God and who He is each day, because of doctrine, false teachings and wordly idiology.

Why isn't it good enough to call Him the Son of God? To call the Saviour the Son of the Father, the living God united with the Spirit and Father. To call the Spirit the Truth, to call the Father the Father of Jesus.

It is absolutely inspired by Satan, and I believe that God watches these people and lifts His eyebrows slightly and says "These fools".

I will pray to God about this issue and I hope that He hears my prayer. I would hate to see my friends call Jesus the womb one day, it's so pathetic, He is the champion of the cross, He is not a womb.

May God bless

How in the world is Mother gender inclusive? It not only excludes all males but all non mother girls. I also note that nearly all of the suggested options are all impersonal. How is the description of God's Tri-fold Personality improved and made manifest by using impersonal words? Most importantly, God Himself is the one who chose the terms Father, Son and Holy Spirit to describe Himself. He ought to know what He is like far better than some fools with PhD. degrees. After all, He has a G.O.D. degree. We should never allow ourselves to be influenced by the passing fads of whatever political correct doctrine is being pushed this week. It can and does change rapidly. God's Eternal Word does not.

Amen! That is a great way to put it. We change, but GOD does not. We were made by Him, yet we try to recreate Him as well? Shame on these kind of people. GOD is GOD and no man's ideas, concepts or philosophies can change His ways
