I'm an old guy. I have 4 grandchildren now. I know there are some on here that have great-grandchildren.
But I'm old enough to remember a time when....
The US had the number one economy in the world.
The US had the number one education system in the world.
The US had the number one military in the world.
The US exported almost 5 times the goods it imported.
when US citizens could travel almost anywhere in the world and be looked upon with respect.
when the government didn't end the year in debt.
when people didn't worry about social security.
I also remember some things that have changed about this country.
I remember when abortion was illegal.
I remember when homosexuality was illegal and frowned upon.
I remember when marijuana was illegal.
I remember fornication was a rare thing.
I remember when unmarried couples were ashamed to say they were living together.
I remember when we said the pledge of allegiance in classrooms, and everyone said one nation under GOD.
I remember when the 10 commandments were still in courtrooms, and classrooms, and on some college campuses.
I remember when prayer was allowed in school.
I remember when casual sex and cursing weren't allowed on television.
I remember when violent gangs were all adults, and you never heard about children bringing guns to school.
I remember when honesty and integrity mattered, even to (most) politicians.
I remember a time when the US was Israels closest ally.
I find it very interesting that the two lists above almost go hand in hand.
It seems the US is a lot like Israel, the further we get from God, the less his blessing and protection seem to cover this country.
..and yet many people say there is no God, the Bible is a myth. It's amazing to me.
Don't get me wrong, all of the sins listed above existed in this country well before the last 50 years or so, but not nearly so prevalently, not on a national scale.
I can't help but feel like, the further a nation gets from God, the more things start to unravel and fall apart.
I am amazed at the amount of debt this country is in right now, the government we have doesn't even seem to know how to stop the bleeding.
I also have to wonder, if God can stop blessing a nation because of their sin, can he do the same for an individual?
I'm not really talking about losing your salvation here, just less protection and blessings.
Jer 8:5 "Why then has this people, Jerusalem, Turned away in continual apostasy? They hold fast to deceit, They refuse to return.
