United India Votes for Stability
May 18, 2009:

New Delhi:

The Indian voter has spoken – clearly, decisively and positively. Confounding the politicians, pollsters and pundits, the Indian National Congress party and the rump United Progressive Alliance (UPA) have received a resounding vote of confidence taking them into majority territory on their own. Even the optimistic Congress party was pleasantly surprised and the overconfident Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) still does not know what hit them. As the BJP introspects they should consider the voters’ verdict against the politics of polarization.
Many political pundits also spoke of an “X” factor in the verdict of Election 2009. The Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) believes that this “X Factor” is God.

EFI believe that this verdict is also an answer to much prayer especially after Kandhamal, Orissa. God does hear prayer and delivers.

Outlook Election Extra could not resist the banner headline “KING IS SINGH” under the header “History! Non-Gandhi Manmohan stars in biggest Congress win since 1977”. EFI congratulates Dr. Manmohan Singh on his achievement of what only Nehru accomplished before – returned to power after a full term as Prime Minister of independent India. However, it is God who continues to be seated on the throne over all nations including our dear India. [Psalm 47:8, 9]

Almost all commentators have agreed that as much as it was a vote for the Congress, it was a vote against the extreme Right (BJP) and the extreme Left (Communists). As Outlook’s Vinod Mehta put it, “The world’s largest democracy … remains firmly committed to secular politics.” And Indian Express’ Shekhar Gupta in a front page editorial summed up “So the voter has also junked the idea that Indian secularism needs certificates of legitimacy from the Left. Or that, somehow, you had to be godless to be secular.”

EFI calls on the Indian Christians community to pray “first of all” for our rulers, as commanded by God. Pray – with thanksgiving – for the Congress leaders to be humble and work to be worthy of the mandate given by the Indian electorate. Pray for wisdom in government formation. Pray that righteous women and men will be given positions of authority for nothing exalts a nation like righteousness. Pray for the shalom – peace, security, prosperity – of India. Jai Hind!

Thank you for that information Brother. India has seemed so troubled politically in recent times.

If the Saints of Jesus are rejoicing....it must be good news.
