God's Plan For You All Along
I am going to make a statement that you will rejoice to hear, but probably struggle to embrace. - God's plan all along has been to make you like His Son, Jesus Christ. This is your destiny. - And, if you have accepted the Lordship of Christ, He will be relentless in His pursuit of this goal in your life. I rejoice in this truth, but I struggle daily with this process of transformation. We shall call it "Sanctification", but it occurs through discipleship. As we choose to become "Disciples of Christ", we begin the lifelong battle to discipline ourselves for a greater cause. No one enjoys discipline. Nobody really likes change. But that is what God is in the business of doing with our lives. Scripture is repeatedly reminding us of godly character our lives should exhibit.
Jesus spoke the beatitudes in His sermon on the mount. Paul listed the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians and devoted a whole chapter to love in 1 Corinthians 13. Peter taught the building blocks to a successful, productive life. God's ultimate goal for your life on earth is not comfort, but character development. This stuff is hard work! I find it very difficult to develop the character of Christ. Remember, this is earth, not heaven. It is supposed to be difficult because that's what causes us to grow. So how do I do it? "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit" says the Lord. The secret to success is realizing that Christ lives in you. Our successful transformation happens from the inside out. As you fight the good fight and discipline yourself to imitate Christ, remember - Successful imitation occurs because of spiritual inhabitation. "Christ in you, the hope of glory." God be with us all...
