God's Spirit
Everyone has their different opinions, and I'm definitely cool with that. So I just wanted to share my belief on what I think God's spirit is, how we can get it, and what it leads to with some bible verses to back it all up. You don't have to believe what I say, but if I were you I would consider looking into it.
From my time here on earth I have come to the conclusion that we all seek one thing, and that one thing is genuine love; I believe it comes from one source and that source is God. "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8. With that being said, here's where the crux of the topic comes.
With God being love, throughout time he has shown us his love (himself) in many different ways; one huge way being the life of Jesus Christ. I say this because there are multiple verses in the bible to back up the fact that Jesus is the word of God, spirit of God, and way to God. I'll list them here.
- "He is dressed in garments drenched in blood, and his name is: The Word of God." Revelation 19:3
- "In him was the life, and the life was the light of people... And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." John 1:1-14
- "Take up also the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:17
- "I am the way, the truth and the life; nobody comes to the Father if not through me." John 14:6
So if Jesus is all these things, he holds the key to how we know and have God's spirit. To me that means he's extremely important; and I should be taking all of my time to focus on him, the things he said, and the things he did while he was walking the earth. That makes complete sense if you look at the things that Jesus spoke in the four gospels, let me explain.
Jesus said that his teachings are his spirit (God's spirit). "The Spirit is what gives life; the flesh does not profit; the words I speak to you are spirit and life." John 6:63. And the whole entire job of the Holy Spirit is to tell us the things Jesus taught, because they're important when it comes to following God and teaching others about him. "The Holy Spirit shall teach you all things, and remind you of all the things I have told you." John 14:26. Looking at those verses, it easy to see that Jesus wants us to focus on what he said. I think that's because he wants us to get to God, and the only way we can do that is by going through Jesus (doing what he taught). "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5.
So as we look at the whole Gospel of Jesus, we can see that most of it was him teaching. Yes, he did die for us; but the thing that always gets left out when we hear people talking about Jesus is his teachings. We have to understand that the Gospel of Jesus includes his teachings, " The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God... Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying,"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel." Mark 1:1-15.
Jesus is a foundation, something that we build our lives off of; so we need to look at everything he stood for. "I put in Zion a precious and chosen chief cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will not be ashamed." 1 Peter 2:6. Jesus even said that if we don't listen or do the things he said we're building on sand that will be washed away due time. "Whoever hears my words and does them, builds on the rock. Whoever hears my words and does not do them, builds on the sand." Matthew 7:24-27. If we truly believe that Jesus will save us someday then we will look at what he said and act on it, because he is our true Pastor John 10:11-14.
I cannot stress enough the fact that we need to listen to the things Jesus said and do them if we want to know God and get away from his wrath at the end of the world. Just saying "Lord Lord" without even taking into consideration what he taught will get us no where, for if we love Jesus we will obey his commandments John 14:15.
Jesus' teachings will judge us.
- "Whoever rejects me and my words, has one that will judge them; the words I have spoken will judge them on the last day." John 12:48
God hates lukewarmness, we either do what Jesus said or we don't.
- "Since you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew you from my mouth." Revelation 3:16
Obey Jesus or get Gods wrath.
- "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; but whoever does not believe the Son shall not see life and remains under God's wrath." John 3:36
All of the verses I shared point to how Jesus is the one we need to be focusing on, because he leads us to God, he's the spirit and word of God; and don't we all want to get to him. I want you to really think about Jesus, he's worth all the time you have; I'm not trying to condemn you or bash you with bible verses. I'm only trying to show that Jesus is important if we want God;s spirit.
Let's remember that Jesus never changes, what he said then still applies to us now "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever." Hebrews 13:8. We need to believe in him, and we believe in him by doing what Jesus taught. Because if we believe in Jesus, God will forgive us "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord." Acts 3:19
It's important for all of us to study the bible, just so we can get to know Jesus, instead of relying on what others say about him. We need a personal relationship with him because he teaches us how to love and how to be at peace. So never stop praying, never stop seeking God, and never stop focusing on the positive things that come your way from God. Look for him in all the things you do, and ask yourself always; is what you're doing now what Gods wants you to do.
- Peace and love
