Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer
Psalm 19:14

Gosh, Golly, Gee Whizz, Cor Blimey, Gadzooks, damn ,darn etc etc

All these frequently used euphemisms or minced oaths are a way of watering down cursing.
In other words they are an attempt to make cursing and taking the name of the Lord in vain acceptable.

But what does the Bible say

“Thou shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.... (Exodus 20:7)

Let us use our words to glorify the Lord and to bring praise to the glorious name of Jesus

Greetings,

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Matthew 12:36

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

Bless you ....><>

I am and "Old Sailor" and one of my most frequent sins that I am constantly working on is cursing. I do a pretty good job around the grand-kids but I must admit...I seldom use your "watered-down" euphemisms and I thank you for the nice reminder!

"Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." John 14:10

What is it that we have in us that speaks words other than those of Father God?

"But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." Matt 5:37

I like the texts everyone has put forth, but all of you have missed one. It is one that I have searched for, for a very long time, and with Christ, have found it.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

That pretty much sums it all up. To top it off it speaks directly of 'corrupt communication'. This is a text you can always use when 'Christians' try to sugarcoat it. :)

God bless you all.
Grow in the wisdom and grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
