Ideally when you're starting out, planning for your future, wouldn't it be better and so much easier and more precise if you had 20:20 vision and could see into, predict and even control the future? Sadly we can't. No, the best we can do is work hard, keep our fingers crossed, hope for the best and with any luck .... maybe ..... here's hoping..... That sort of planning is akin to being in a rowing boat without an oar! The thing is we've all done that, been there, rarely does that strategy pan out the way you planned.

Kids who have a clear career plan and goal mapped out in their heads, 'I want to be a vet when I grow up,' or pilot, teacher or whatever, have no advantage over their peers who haven't a clue as to what they want to be.

So to all the kids getting their exam results, being pressured to make career decisions, long term plans.... don't. You're not equipped. My advice, pray and ask God, 'God, where do you want me to be and what path do you want me to take?' He is in total control over your long term as well as your minute by minute. He has plans for you, do not frustrate and overrule them with your plans, it won't work out for you any better than it did for Jonah.

The same goes for any decision bigger than next year's vacation; life partner, house move, kid's school... Ask God, pray, meditate and then wait upon His answer, gradually it will become clear. You're not on your own, God loves you dearly and He wants to work with and through you, you will be amazing and amazed, through Him. What an immense resource we have in our God. Compare and contrast with those who have plans and ambitions that are bigger than they are and so destined for disappointment, those who haven't a clue and just drift around in the hope that something will come up and you who asks, seeks and finds the will of the almighty creator God.

This is God's career advice to Jeremiah-

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Then said I: “Ah, Lord God ! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord . Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.” Jeremiah 1:4‭-‬10 NKJV

Thanks for sharing this post Andyindauk. It is true that people often live their lives without much idea and direction of what to do. We should absolutely be those who depend on God. But even more than the pursuits in the world, Matthew 6:33 reminds us that we should seek first God's kingdom and righteousness. How much more purposeful and meaningful it is to know God and carry out His work. :)
