In Luke 7, we see that Jesus states some people require more forgiveness and grace than others.
Luke 7:39; Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner."
Luke 7:40; And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he replied, "Say it, Teacher."
Luke 7:41; "A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
Luke 7:42; "When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?"
Luke 7:43; Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have judged correctly."
Luke 7:44; Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
Luke 7:45; "You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet.
Luke 7:46; "You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume.
Luke 7:47; "For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."
There are many lessons here, we see Jesus desires for us to love Him. But the main point here is that some people require more grace than others.
In fact Paul says where there is more sin, more grace is required.
Rom 5:20; The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
Rom 6:1; What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
So every time we sin more grace is required. Thank God the grace is there, otherwise none of us would make it. However we need to be careful of taking this grace for granted.
The sacrifice of Jesus is what makes this grace possible. His death paid for our sins. But God makes it clear, he doesn't desire sacrifice. He would much rather have our obedience.
Not obedience from ordinances written on tablets, but obedience from a repentant heart.
Psal 40:6; Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired; My ears You have opened; Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
Heb 10:5; Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME;
Heb 10:6; IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE.
The body prepared for us was of course Christ. He was our sacrifice for sins, But God makes it clear he would much rather have love and compassion from us.
Matt 9:13; "But go and learn what this means: 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Matt 12:7; "But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the innocent.
Heb 10:26; For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27; but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.
Heb 10:28; Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Heb 10:29; How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30; For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE."
Heb 10:31; It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Yes, God loves us. But the Bible makes it clear that trampling the grace of Christ underfoot and taking it for granted has a severe penalty.
