I have a question about christians listening to secular music. I really love almost all genres of music my favorites are country and instrumental jazz. I also like rock but have quit listening to some bands because of the use of profanity in the lyrics. I am asking my brothers and sisters for their advise about listening to secular music . I want to know what some of you use as guidelines for listening to non religious music.

Hi there.

I find myself wanting to listen to Christian music especially on the internet. I find it so uplifting and helpful. It sure lifts our spirit and keeps us focused on Jesus too.

However, there are times when I hear secular music like when I go to my club as they have music playing. The types of secular music we hear is often from the 50's. That type of music I really used to like listening to and still enjoy.

I do not like the secular music that is played in the shops and now to my horror also playing in banks.

I see nothing wrong with country music. I would say jazz is ok too.

I do have secular music but rarely get to listen to them. Think maybe I should give them away.

God bless :love::rainbow: :rose:

Hey Bob,

With me, it's about discernment; I avoid the obvious stuff (profanity, sexual themes, etc) and use discernment over the rest of secular music that contains no such thing.

Grace and peace!

I listen to secular music because of the adrenaline pump I get. I mean, I'm young, a man (lol), single (not lol), weightlifter and I drive around a "sports car". Its "me" so to speak, so the secular music I've listened to (particular bands) since I was a kid is still in me. I do however pray that GOD will help me stray away from secular music. It can affect you negatively. I've learned that over the years in my growth with the Lord.

For one, let's be honest. You preach to a lost soul, then you hop in your car in front of them and take off with secular music blasting, profanity or arrogant "rhythm". Does this look good? Not quite.

Secondly, ask yourself: Would Jesus listen to this?

After all, we are to imitate our Savior Jesus.

Well as for me I don't but

Well I'm not judging anyone that does. But as for me I don't listen to secular music. I believe that it gets you in the flesh. Secular music is also of the world and the in bible it says in Romans 12:2 " And be not conformed to this world :but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect, will of God."
I think listening to secular music should be something of the past not the future. So I think we've got to ask ourselfs a few questions?

First question if this artist is not professing christianity, then will the music fulfill your spirit or your flesh? If it is not of Christ how can it uplift your spirit? How can it help you grow in your walk with christ? For the bible says In Galatians 5:16 " This I say then,Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And in the 25th verse of Galatians it states "If we live in the Spirit, let us walk in the the Spirit.

Second question If this artist is'nt professing Christ and I'm listening to his/her music. How I'm I being like Christ when the very artist I listen to father is Satan who is against the things of Christ? Of course I don't condemn anyone. For it says in John 15:19 right after the 18th verse Jesus says if the world hateth you know that before it hateth you it hateth me then it says " If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world therefore the world hateth you. " So as I said no offense to anyone who does listen to secular music. This is just what I feel and believe God wants us to do . But I do ask of anyone who reads this to examine yourself. And ask yourself these questions that I'm sure have came to your mind. God Bless all
