Hey everyone out there! I'm a learning guitarist, self-teaching, with help from my youth pastor, and I was wondering if there's any more of us guitarists out there? Also, I've been looking at getting a guitar, either an Alvarez or an Ibanez, so if you've heard of either, please tell me what you think of them.

God bless!

choosing a guitar..

hi Agape! Good day! i would rather recommend the fender stratocaster guitar. they have a wide selections of guitar for different kinds of genre... but as for me, would choose a Fender Fat Strat guitar. Hope you get a good one! God bless! Rock for the Lord!

If you want to go for a good price guitar, especially for a beginner, then go for either a Squier by Fender Bullet Strat ($119), or the Ibanez GRX20 ($149.99). these are two very good guitars for beginners.

Hi, i've had a few guitars in my day. I used to play lead guitar in a heavy metal rock band back in the 80's. I've sold all my guitars except for 1, i still have a mid 1980's BC Rich st3. Its sweet. I haven't touched it about 18 years. With all the excellent christian rock out there today i keep thinking of picking it up again....but.....just not enough time to do everything i want to do nowadays.

I've had an Ibanez, i liked it. If you're serious, don't waste your money on a cheapie. Get a decent guitar, not top of the line but a decent one to learn on.

Peace, good luck.
Rudi

Yeah I know what you mean Rudi. I made the mistake of selling all my gear in the past, but even though I keep making the same mistakes over again, this is one I am not repeating.

 Know what ya mean, these are very costly mistakes LOL.

I sold my guitars and bought a motorcycle, sold the motorcycle and bought some photography equipment......i guess i'll stick here for awhile :shade:

Haha! I've actually got photography stuff and a guitar, so...lol. Although I'm learning off an Ibanez now, getting rather good with it, although I'm not exactly the best, lol.

Mhhh....seems like we tend to run in a pack...I still have my old Yashica/Contax 35mm, but had to give up shooting with it since it's now economincal safe to shoot with my digital. Took some college courses to learn how to shoot and develop BW film, but never really achieved a passing grade since I wanted to become a fashion/portrait shooter.

Now I do airbrushing and computer artwork

Come to find out a couple of years ago that Contax/Yashica is now defunct....yikes and I spent about $1,000 on my camera equipment..

Just out of curiousity I am trying to learn how to achieve kinda like a long-lasting sustain with my gear....anybody know how to do this? Kinda like the opening on Van Halen's Why Can't This Be Love?

I still have 1 guitar & amp and stuff if i ever want to play again. What kind of camera do you use? I currently shoot with a Canon 30D.

I use a Nikon D60, except I'm only 17, so I can't quite afford a new lens yet, lol

Nice camera. Yup, save up some money and get yourself a couple nice lenses and you're set.

One problem: I'm planning on going to DBU next year...lol. I need to save for a laptop for when I do go, lens can come later :) At least I'll still have my camera, guitar, and the Word and other books to give me things to do :)

Here are some of the guitars I own. I really have way too many. I went through a collecting phase. I sold the J.B Player 12 string in the pics but have acquired more since then. When my dad died, I got his 12 string Washburn acoustic and his 6 string Ovation acoustic.

Here are my guitars and my amp & effects. I guess I went a little crazy with the electrics though. And I can't even really play. :embarasse

That's a Squier Strat, Epiphone Les Paul, and Ibanez....I can't think of the model name. Of course, that's a Ovation roundback...apparently the only remaining thing my father "passed on" to me when he died (unexpectedly).

Not pictured is an Behringer IAXE393 USB Electric guitar, the first one I bought. I mistakingly bought it because I had confused USB with Midi.... :embarasse :secret:

That's a Line 6 Spider III 15 Amp and Digitech RP350 Effects pedal.

One thing my brother recently bought to my attention is that when you buy a electric guitar you always have the dealer "set" the guitar up. Had I known this at first I guess my playing would have been better? I purchased them like 1 2/2 years ago. I called the dealer before Christmas and they told me it costs $35 to set a guitar up.

Still need to learn how to play. I'm thinking of purchasing a course over at www.ultimatebeginnerguitar.com. I know how to read musical notation (somewhat), but don't really know how to "play" the guitar.

I was just thinking, and you know how sometimes that can be trouble....

It's funny how we are boasting about the material things we have...but it's so much fun.....
