“So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:26-33 ESV)
The ”them” being spoken of here refers back to the two previous verses where it talks about those who persecuted Jesus in many different ways, including they falsely accused him of being of Satan. And in those two verses we are told that if we are disciples of Christ, i.e. followers of Jesus, teaching what he taught, we will be treated like Jesus was treated. We will be hated and persecuted as he was, and accused falsely of wrongdoing, and called evil, and cast off as though we are worthless, like trash just to be discarded.
We are not to be afraid of our persecutors and those who treat us as though we are not worthy to be in their presence, as though we are to be sent away someplace else where they say we will be “a better fit.” For they were warned about people like us, i.e. “people with strong convictions,” which are the convictions of Christ and of his Word. But we are not to fear them nor their opinions of us and of our character, provided that we are following Jesus in walks of obedience, not living in deliberate and habitual sin.
We should not fear our opponents and our persecutors and those who would cast us off as though we are trash to be discarded. For all is going to come out into the open one day, and all will be revealed for what it is, good and bad. And this does not make us perfect people. But as followers of Jesus we should be obeying his teachings and his commands to us who claim to be his followers, and we should no longer be walking (in conduct, in practice) in deliberate and habitual sin against our Lord. But we should serve Jesus.
So, no matter how we get treated for obeying our Lord, and for doing what his word teaches us that we must do as his followers, we must not be afraid of those who would come against us and accuse us falsely and mistreat us. We must keep speaking the truth of God’s Word (IN CONTEXT), and keep spreading the truth of the gospel taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles. And we must walk in the fear of the Lord, in honor, respect, and veneration, and in adherence to his teachings and no longer in sin.
So everyone who acknowledges Jesus before other humans, he will also acknowledge before God the Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies the Lord before other humans, he will also deny before the Father. But this “acknowledging” and “denying” are not done by lip service only. For there are many who acknowledge Jesus with their lips but their hearts are far from the Lord, and so they deny him by their actions. They say, “Lord, Lord,” but they don’t obey the Lord. Instead, they continue living in their sin.
Thus, Jesus said that if anyone would come after him he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to our lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to our Lord, in the power of God, then we have salvation from sin and eternal life with God. But if we deny the Lord by how we live our lives, when he returns, he will deny us (Luke 9:23-26).

Woe to me should I not preach Jesus.
I’m compelled to preach the full gospel.
I make myself a slave to ev’ryone
To win their hearts to Christ.
All this I do for my Lord Jesus,
And for the sake of His Name;
Do it for the sake of His gospel,
So that I, its blessings gain.
Scripture notates the sins of others;
Written down for us as examples
To keep us from setting our hearts
On evil as did those of old.
Do not worship other gods of man;
Do not give your hearts to them;
Not partake in immorality.
Do not test your Lord and King.
So, be careful if you think you are
Standing firm in your faith in Jesus.
God has given his word to warn us,
So through faith we will not fall.
No temptation has o’ertaken you
Except what is commonplace.
God is faithful to not let you be
Tempted past what you can bear.
He gives the way of escape.
