We live in a time when the most common thing on television is "reality" TV. I admit I have watched a few of these shows and I am convinced that almost all of them are anything but reality. Still, for whatever reason many of us are drawn into conflict. We have to watch to see how it ends, we have to see who has the last word.

I'm a big sports fan, I watch a lot of football, but lately even much of this wearies me. There is much trash talking and un-neccesary celebration when a good play is made. It seems much of sports has turned more into drama than the sport itself.

It's crept into our culture and way of life so much it's amazing.. we have reality shows about cooking, about pawn shops, building motorcycles, and even about auctions and storage bins. Why do some of us find this so intriguing?

I hate to admit it, but even here on TJ we sometimes have "reality thread posting". We forget why we came here. We should be lifting each other up and encouraging one another, and yet somehow... we are drawn in bickering, arguments, proving we are right and having to have the last word. I myself have been drawn into these situations more than once. To those I have offended on here, I sincerely ask for your forgiveness.

May we keep these verse in mind.

Rom 12:17; Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men.
Rom 12:18; If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
Rom 12:19; Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.
Rom 12:20; "BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD."
Rom 12:21; Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

1 Thes 5:15; See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.

Psa 34:13; Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit.
Psa 34:14; Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.

Matt 5:37; "But let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no'; anything beyond these is of evil.
Matt 5:38; "You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.'
Matt 5:39; "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

Eph 4:29; Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Eph 4:30; Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31; Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
Eph 4:32; Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Matt 5:22; "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
Matt 5:23; "Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Matt 5:24; leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.

Heb 12:15; See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

Maybe instead of sitting around thinking about how to have to last word or how to get even, we should be showing love for one another and praying for one another.

Thanks for the reminder, Brother
Bless you ....><>

The truth can set us free if we see it and believe it. Thanks for the encouragement in love.

Good post my friend
James 3:16Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)
16 For where there are jealousy and selfish ambition, there will be disharmony and every foul practice.

Great post brother @B-A-C

This passage popped up in my mind. I think it applies to many areas of our lives, whether it be conversation, sports, what we listen to or view, etc. To state it black and white, if it doesn't glorify GOD it probably just doesn't belong.

1 Corinthians 10:23-33

Do All to the Glory of God

“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.” If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else's conscience? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

The commands posted in the first post are about how we treat each other in general life.
They are sound doctrine and must be obeyed
Yet as far as sound doctrine goes the command is to listen and not argue with what the word says.
For instance there are posts in this forum that contain questions about the second coming that should have ended long ago, yet because men want to have the last word and choose to ignore God's word, the arguments by men against the sound doctrines continue.
This should not be so.
It is only by human arguments that these conversations continue, because of refusal to be corrected by sound doctrine on certain none disputable matters.
It is purposeful rebellion against God that causes this kind of behaviour.
Sound doctrine is there to make sure we are not left not knowing things, yet some prefer to act as if nothing is known.

@Listening Of course, different believers do have differing ideas on what is and what is not "sound doctrine". I agree that argument about a point can be complete foolishness, but sometimes discussion will bring out something to person who previously misunderstood it.

I did purposely underline the words, argument and discussion.

If a discussion moves to the point where two or more are trying to force-feed their own viewpoints into others it is definitely time to stop.

Sound doctrine is made clear by the apostles.
If it becomes not understood what it is, it is to those who are on the outside who cannot read and understand.
Sound doctrine is the enemy of false teachers who seek to dispute none disputable things that are made clear by the sound doctrine.
False teachers seek to complicate and obfuscate the truth that is plainly set out in sound doctrine.

For instance St Paul assured those who were worried they had been left behind, by clearly telling them That the false teachers telling them they had been left behind were not telling them the truth, because they could not have been, for;
The coming of the Lord and our being gathered to him will not occur until after the falling away and the man of sin ( antichrist) has been revealed.

He did this to reassure them by using sound doctrine to allay their fears of Their having being left behind, which he carefully got rid of by making clear Those two things must occur before the "rapture" so to speak.

I understand what you mean, but I've been on the various sides of some of the many issues too many times myself. The apostles who wrote what they wrote which became scripture are not here to testify for themselves. The Truth of the matter of God's Word is available but only through the quickening (bringing to Life) of the raw scripture within a man by the Holy Ghost.

This is what the Holy Ghost in us is supposed to be about, but reasoning minds of men will often have their own way causing confusion for too many people. When Jesus spoke he never spoke with confusion, but some people whose own ways were in their way were confused.

That cause of confusion still exists for when we start deciding what Jesus (or the Apostles) meant when they spoke (or wrote) without being led by the Holy Ghost, we are heading for a fall.

I am perplexed by the total blindness of men.
Are you mere men or do you know the truth
Do you have the Spirit of God and know all things
Are are you mere men?

Those who are God's will have the spirit, they will be reachable not by men but by his word
They will not refuse the truth, the very plain truth that st paul teaches concerning the coming of the lord and our being gathered to him concerns one event on one day, and st paul makes clear that that day will not come until After the Falling away and man of sin is revealed.

The plain Truth of the words in english is understood by even those who do not believe in the Lord.

A liar is exposed by his lie against What is fully known to be the truth not because of lies.
Those in christ know the truth and can see the lies that are against christ's truth, which is the word of truth that is not hidden but has been made known to all men who are in the truth..

The body of Christ is not in mystery Babylon ( confusion)
It is in the truth and knows ALL things .
