For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs." Zephaniah 3:17 NLT
At Christmas, we make a concentrated effort to rejoice in Christ’s coming, to break through the busyness of the season and be reminded that God came to save us. We think of shepherds praising God as angels gathered en masse, proclaiming God’s glory, the wonder of Immanuel, God with us.
And while it’s good and right that we should sing His praises every day, it’s humbling and heartwarming to think of Jesus singing over us. Zephaniah reminds us that God’s plan was always that He should come live among us, because He wants to. He doesn’t just tolerate us—He delights in us!
Jesus chose you, redeemed you, called you to be His. He gave you His righteousness, His power to live and hope and overcome. These are not the actions of a passive deity, removed from the cares of His worshippers. God pursued you when you were lost because you mean the world to Him. When you gave yourself to Him, He shouted for joy—“Yes! My son is home!” Today is a great day to celebrate the God who celebrates you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, when I sing Your praises today, I will remember that You also rejoice over me.
