He must increase, but I must decrease....John 3:30

Not I but Christ liveth in me......Galatians 2:20

Not I, but Christ be honored, loved, exalted,
Not I, but Christ be seen, be known and heard;
Not I, but Christ in every look and action,
Not I, but Christ in every thought and word.

Oh, to be saved from myself, dear Lord,
Oh, to be lost in Thee,
Oh, that it may be no more I,
But Christ that lives in me.

Not I, but Christ to gently soothe in sorrow,
Not I, but Christ to wipe the falling tear;
Not I, but Christ to lift the weary burden,
Not I, but Christ to hush away all fear.

Christ, only Christ, no idle word e'er falling,
Christ, only Christ, no needless bustling sound;
Christ, only Christ, no self-importance bearing,
Christ, only Christ, no trace of I be found.

Not I, but Christ my every need supplying,
Not I, but Christ my strength and health to be;
Christ, only Christ, for spirit, soul, and body,
Christ, only Christ, live then Thy life in me.

Christ, only Christ, ere long will fill my vision,
Glory excelling soon, full soon I'll see;
Christ, only Christ, my every wish fulfilling,
Christ, only Christ, my all in all to be.

Oh, to be saved from myself, dear Lord,
Oh, to be lost in Thee,
Oh, that it may be no more I,
But Christ that lives in me.

This is a hymn by Ada Whiddington, 1891...its words the prayer of my heart

O the joy of having nothing and being nothing, seeing nothing but a living Christ in glory,
and being careful for nothing but His interests down here.
This is faith.
We care for nothing but His interest.
We should always say, .....Not I, not me, not my, not mine; but He, Him, His. He is the first and the last and everything in between.
Christ, only Christ (Darby)

Thank you for sharing this Julia,

a song so sweet to the earnest heart, for one who seeks only Jesus, yea, a blessing of words, mingled with grace, and crying out humility before our glorious King.

Present your bodies a living sacrifice Romans 12:1

this speaks to me thus.... we desire so much less of us, and rightly so, that our King and Saviour may be exalted and only Him, not us..... yet, He desires us... as we are... all of us, not only meaning everyone of us, but all that each of us is..... and by yeilding ourselves only to Him who loves us so, we are giving Him everything we can...

Jesus is our Lord, and the Author and FINISHER of our faith... and while we struggle to be so much less, He only wants all of us.. that He, the Master of our everything, may with His wise and loving hand, restore us to Himself, and fashion us after His likeness.

How lovely to bring a sacrifice so sweet, a heart only wanting for Him.... and so we can give Him all of us, leaving all the redemption to Him, our Lord, Jesus Christ..... He alone is worthy, He alone and only Him...... yea... none of us, and only, ever, Him.

Bless you my sister ....><>

Excellent post and hymn Jskm.

*If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it. (Matthew 10:39)

Many want to focus on who we are in Him, but WE is still the focus and not HIM. If we will steadfastly focus on Him self will fade out of view. Great hymn, thanks Jskm.

Thank you Julia . . .very true

I am at a point of life where I renew this again daily too:

Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow!

I am very thankful, that I can trust God in all matters . . .no difference how bad things may seem . . .I may trust that everything is in His hands

I thank Jesus for His Holy Spirit being so alive and strong, that we may overcome all sadness and fear and troubled thoughts in life

To God be ALL Glory Amen

Unto you therefore which believe He is precious 1 Peter 2:9

Dear sister peeps and brothers Bear and jiggyfly

Yes this is indeed a beautiful hymn...with words to apply to the heart.

The more we empty ourselves of self...the more He fills us with His love. Let us all sink lower and lower at the foot of His cross....so that Christ truly become our all in all.

There is a depth, a matchless depth, in Jesu's love. There is a luscious sweetness in the fellowship with Him. You must eat, or you will never know the flavour of it. Oh! taste and see that the Lord is good!...... Like two streams that, after flowing side by side, at length unite, so may Christ and our soul melt into one, even as Isis melts into Thames, till only one life shall flow, so that the life we live in the flesh shall be no more ours, but Christ that liveth in us. Amen.

Consider Him.....
Jesus our beloved Saviour, is so precious, so beautiful, so lovely. All fades in to insignificance in comparison to Him

Keep thine eye simply on Him; let his death, His agonies, His groans, His sufferings, His merits, His glories, His intercession, be fresh upon thy mind; when thou wakest in the morning look for Him; when thou liest down at night look for Him. (Spurgeon)

A few more devotional words for those who were blessed by
Not I but Christ

Oh, to be nothing, nothing
Only to lie at His feet
A broken and emptied vessel
For the Master’s use made meet
Emptied that He might fill me
As forth to His service I go
Broken, that so unhindered
His life through me might show

Oh, to be nothing, nothing
Only as led by His hand
A messenger at His gateway
Only waiting for His command
Only an instrument ready
His praises to sound at His will,
Willing should He not require me
In silence to wait on Him still.

Oh, to be nothing, nothing,
Painful the humbling may be
Yet low in the dust I’d lay me
That the world might my Saviour see
Rather be nothing, nothing
To Him let our voices be raised
He is the Fountain of blessing
He only is meet to be praised

Oh, to be nothing, nothing
Only to lie at His feet
A broken and emptied vessel
For the Master’s use made meet*

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20

God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ
Gal 6:14

Dear reader...Consider Him....
Contemplate the depths of His amazing love
Sink lower and lower
Be blessed by His beauty and grace.
He is All and in all

Not I but Christ liveth in me......Galatians 2:20

I discovered this beautiful hymn which I feel compliments the theme of this thread

May our every moment be filled with Jesus
Only Jesus
Our life
Our All

The Name which I whisper as morning time breaks,
And is on my tongue as my body awakes,
Is Jesus, is Jesus, is Jesus, Jesus.

The Name which I whisper as hours will fly,
And lives in my mind until evening will die,
Is Jesus, is Jesus, is Jesus, Jesus.

The Name which I mention when night’s coming near,
The Name of the Man that my heart loves so dear,
Is Jesus, is Jesus, is Jesus, Jesus.

That Name is the only last word I will say,
The first I will whisper in Heaven one day,
Is Jesus, is Jesus, is Jesus, Jesus.

(Trygve Bjerkrheim 2000)

Oh, Jesus! Thy power, Thy grace, Thy justice, Thy tenderness, Thy truth, Thy majesty, and Thine immutability make up such a man, or rather such a God-man, as neither heaven nor earth hath seen elsewhere. Thy infancy, Thy eternity, Thy sufferings, Thy triumphs, Thy death, and Thine immortality, are all woven in one gorgeous tapestry, without seam or rent. Thou art music without discord; Thou art many, and yet not divided; Thou art all things, and yet not diverse. As all the colours blend into one resplendent rainbow, so all the glories of heaven and earth meet in Thee, and unite so wondrously, that there is none like Thee in all things; nay, if all the virtues of the most excellent were bound in one bundle, they could not rival Thee, Thou mirror of all perfection.

Looking unto Jesus........ Hebrews 12:2

Dear brothers and sisters in our beloved Lord Jesus Christ

Here are some beautiful words from Spurgeon......How precious to let go of self....to let worldly matters fade.....to be able to rejoice in Christ only Christ.....living His life fully within us......

Beloved, when you esteem Christ very highly, the things of this world become of small account with you, and their loss is not so heavily felt.
If you feel your losses and crosses to be such ponderous weights that the wings of Christ's love cannot lift you up from the dust, surely you have made too much of the world and too little of Him.......

If you are so depressed by your trials that you can by no means rejoice, even though you know that your name is written in heaven, then you cannot love Jesus as you should.

Get but delightful thoughts of Him, and you will feel like a man who has lost a pebble but has preserved his diamond; like the man who has seen a few cast clouts and rotten rags consumed in the flames, but has saved his children from the conflagration.
You will rejoice in your deepest distress because Christ is yours if you have a high sense of the preciousness of your Master.

Talk not of plasters that will draw out all pain from a wound! Speak not of medicines which will eradicate disease!
The sweet love of Christ once applied to the deepest wound which the soul can ever know, would heal it at once.
A drop of the precious medicine of Jesus' love tasted in the soul, would chase away all heart pains forever.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, be within us, and we make no choice of situations: put us in Nebuchadnezzar's furnace, if you will walk the glowing coals as our companion, we will fear no evil.

From Spurgeon the Rose and the Lily

Keep your gaze fixed on Him
He is our only hope, our only strength, our perfect peace

The whole of this sermon from Spurgeon is beautiful....if anyone would like to read it I will gladly send it.

Blessings and love in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Julia

Our beloved Lord Jesus must indeed increase as we melt to nothing in the light of His beauty and love

My meditation of Him shall be sweet I will be glad in the Lord

As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons.
I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and His fruit was sweet to my taste.
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord?
Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?
My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.
One pearl of great price.
The prince of the kings of the earth.
His head is as the most fine gold, His locks are bushy, and black as a raven.
The head over all things ,He is the head of the body, the church.
His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers. He could not be hid.
His lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.
Never man spake like this man.
His countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant.
Lord lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon us.

It too has inspired me. I have spent far too much time lately feeling sorry for myself. In the morning, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." In the noon time, bed time, and even awaking in the night..."Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, thank You for what You have done for me."

I agree Dreamer I think too much of myself too. This beatifull poem helps me to think of Jesus

I will start reading it again.
So pleased its still here.

NOT I BUT CHRIST..I think I would have to be nmuch less selfish to really truely say those words.
