Hi. I'm new here. I registered here mostly because I need some advice. You see, my problem is a bit complicated (or so I think), so here goes.

I'm 19, from Ireland (an overwhelmingly catholic country) and am myself catholic. However, over the past 2 years or so, my views and beliefs have completely changed to the extent where I'm officially catholic, but my beliefs are not. There's a lot I disagree with in the Catholic Church, but this isn't really the place for religious debate, so I'm not going to go into that at this point. I'm wondering if I should stick with the catholic church, or if I should attend another denomination's worship services.

Feel free to email me if you want. ([email protected])

Hey there Tom, I am sorry I couldn't get back with you on chat, but this is what I have to say, do what you think is right. Remember God is the only one. Follow the Bible and have a good relationship with God, that's all that matters. Remember God is by your side. He's in your heart so do what your heart desires. God bless you
ur sis, Tanya

Hi Tom, Welcome to talkjesus.
You asked some great questions. I would imagine that you are in a tough spot now with questioning your Catholic upbringing. I am not going to give you my opinion of what I think you should do, that's the easy part. I will make a few suggestions to you if you do not mind. One: buy a Bible that is easy to read and understand(TNIV, the Message). 2nd: read the book of John. 3rd: Ask God to open your heart to the truth of what He wants you to do.
If you want to attend other worship services that is your perogitive, there is nothing wrong with that.
I watched the movie "Luther" recently with Ralph Finnes as Martin Luther. It was really well done.
Let us know if we can help you.
God Bless you.

Tom . Stay in the Word . Stay in prayer . And let the Holy Spirit guide you . He is Gods spokesman on this one . It would be wrong for us to interfear with what the Lord is trying to do in you're life . In the meantime , please keep coming back and enjoy the talkjesus Site ! Mike

You all said everything I would have thought to say so I can't really add much to this but just one thing in reference to catholic beliefs (note that I was raised catholic, attended catholic school for 13yrs). This is what I tell you: please do NOT "hail mary". God bless the immaculate beautiful Mary of Jesus Christ BUT Jesus Christ is THE only way to Father in Heaven

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

I came to the same point when i was 18. I was a catholic also. And came to understand that many of their teachings where not from God. So i left and trusted in the Lord Jesus. Another denomination???? Well that’s up to you. But if i where you i would ask God to guide your conscience read His Word and establish your faith in Him alone. You can fellowship with us here if you like.

Let the Spirit convict.

Thanks for your very kind replies.

About the HAIL MARY: I stopped saying that at least a year ago. I have no problem with the first half, since that's taken straight from the Gospel. The second half, however, is not only blasphemous, but also contains a paradox. God, according to the catholic church, consists of three persons: the father, the son and the holy spirit. If Mary were Mother of God, then she would be the mother of the Father, of the son AND of the Holy Spirit. But...the father is her creator. How can she be the mother of her own creator!?!?!? Even scientifically, the Hail Mary makes no sense.

I have 2 versions of the bible: the RSV and the NRSV (without the awful apocrypha, of course.) I read the new testament often (but I tend to steer clear of Paul's more misogynistic letters). Oh, and John's is my favourite Gospel.

The reason why I'm considering another denomination (like the Church of Ireland or something) is that I don't see a point in being a member of a church which says that my beliefs will send me to hell! (Well, any deviation from catholic doctrine is considered a heresy.)

Anyway, thanks again, and God Bless. =)

It's good to be able to help you. And it's a joy to see someone freed from deception. But be aware there are more deceivers out there. There are many wolves in sheep’s clothing. I would hate to see you freed from one snare only to be caught in another.
