Ok here's the deal, My husband and I just recentley became members of our church. Well it was about 6 months ago. anyway, It is a small church, the former congregation had all but disappeared along with the pastor. Our pastor had just arrived when we heard about him and felt convicted to meet him. All but two couples are new to our church. I was asked to take the 4,5,and 6 year olds for a sunday school class. I was doing real well until our other two sunday school teachers left our church. Now I have all of the kids ranging in ages 2, and 3, to about 12 years old. I love all of the children and woudnt have it any other way. However, I am afraid that Having so many different age groups I am not reaching all of them on a level of teaching that benifits them.
I would welcome any imput on my situation.

thank you.

Hi Brandi Yvonne,

What a wonderful gift it is to lead Sunday school! My God be with you as you work with those kids. I think you are right to be concerned about the age groups and this would be a good thing to bring up with the pastor (elders?) that there is an immediate need to fill the spaces the other 2 teachers left.

I know being in a church in transition is difficult and needs to be covered in prayer. I'd advise to bring it up with the leadership that is there.

I've worked with all ages and will send you a PM with some ideas.

God Bless,

fww

Hello Brandi Yvonne. I have to ask you, who asked you to teach the children? There is a difference between God calling and Pastor appointing. So many times we respond to the need because we feel obligated or we want to be more involved. If God has called you to this task, then He will annoint you to do it and you need not worry.

There was a very respected theologian that had written many books concerning theology. One day when asked to expound on his vast theological knowledge, he said, "Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so".

Jesus ministered to the crowds and I don't think they were seperated according to age or gender. The same Jesus that resides in you. Just follow His lead.

I think you need to push for more adults to be involved in Sunday School teaching. You are correct when you say that one person can't adequately serve the needs of all the age groups.

If you don't stand up for yourself and push for change, you'll find yourself experiencing the truth of that old limerick: "No matter if the job is big or small; If you do it too good, you get stuck with it all."

Thank you all

Thank you all for your comments. If I may I would like to address a few of them.
Our church is a growing church, many of our new members are crossovers from the Baptist church. And for those of you who dont know I am Church of God Girl. So I think alot of folks are alittle intimidated about taking on the role of a teacher. I am also the church treasurer. I do beleive that I was called by God to work in this church. When I first came to this church, I hadnt been to church in 5 years. My husband had an acciedent that nearly killed him,(I have a powerful testimony about that too.) now he is disabled.
I went from stay at home mom, to work 50 hours a week mom.
I began to feel convicted to go back to church about a month before we visited the church that would later become our own. The first day, the first sermon, the first altercall I knew that Gods plan was for me to stay there.
We have developed a small crowd of christians that attend on a regular basis.
I have about 11 to 12 childern in sunday school, and sometimes a few more in childrens church.
Last summer we had our first fundraiser for our sunday school, we had a yardsale and carwash, and we sold hotdogs on the side. We did very well.
And currently we are hosting a penny drop compitition between the girls and the boys and if the girls win, our pastor gets a pie in the face and if the boys win then our worship leader gets the pie. (funny) We hope to be able to take them to winterfest one year, with the proceeds from the fundraisers.
Anyway, for along time I wondered why God convicted me so strongley at that time to get back in church. I know that we all should be, but it was like I could not rest until I found myself in church. Just a couple of months after we became members of our church, my brother committed suicide, I know now that without Jesus in my life during that time I would have never made it through it. God has plans for us, I know that for sure. We just have to figure out what those plans are, and how to achieve them.
Thank you all for your kindness, and please remember our little church in you prayers. We badly need people who want to work in the church. Sunday school teachers, prayer leaders, praise and worship, I am currently the clerk, secretary, and treasurer, as well as sunday school teacher to all of the kids, Please pray for help to come for us. Pray for me to always be able to teach the children Gods word with enthusiasim, and love. Pray that I am able to teach them how to talk to God on a regular basis. And, help me to teach them about Jesus' sacrifice for them, and all of us. Because the children are Jesus' and they love with such unconditional love, They want to know about God and Jesus, and they want to worship in their own way.
