Himself Took Our Infirmities, And Bare Our Sicknesses

(Matt 8:17) “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sickness”

Let’s have some word study.

The word “expiate” means to remove the guilt. Some think, according to dictionary.com, that this means penance or the sufferings of the sinner. But, indeed, it is the agony of Christ that EXPIATES, even as the Scripture says, “Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses”, so that He went to God on our behalf and bore the guilt away forever by the sacrifice of Himself. It is completely gone!

Now therefore, O believer, why do you carry it? I have no hope for unbelief but to believe God – that what Christ has borne, I don’t need to bear.

God doesn’t demand a double punishment. He demands repentance, so that I look to Christ, acknowledging my sins. And then, He demands that I live - that I walk in RECONCILIATION from guilt, as a son, a person who is blessed.

Great thread sister. Praise Jesus for His gift of Salvation on us who believe. Thank GOD for His grace. Every breath is a new chance for repentance.
