It seems that homosexuality has been covered quite a bit more than fornication and adultery here on TalkJesus over the last decade or so.
On one hand people seem to think it is a worse sin than fornication and adultery... and it is....
Lev 18:22; 'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.
.. at least in the sense, that the other two are never called an abomination. Still they will keep you out of the Kingdom of God. So then why do we tend to talk about fornication and adultery
less than homosexuality? Well, I think the main reason is that homosexuality is so prevalent in this current generation. It's everywhere, in education, media, and even in some churches.
I've never seen or even heard of an "Adultery Pride celebration" or a "Fornication Pride parade". But there are plenty of people trying to support and encourage the gay & lesbian movement.
Perhaps most people who are committing sin in secret.. want to keep it a secret. But homosexuals for whatever reason.. want the whole world to know about their sexual preferences.
1Cor 6:9; Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
1Tim 1:8; But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully,
1Tim 1:9; realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers
1Tim 1:10; and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,
So we see here, that this wasn't just an old testament law, but is repeated in the New testament as well.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
This passage in Romans starts out by saying.. "the wrath of God is" ... against ... men who suppress the truth. How many people in education, media, and even some churches
don't want you to know that God is against homosexuality? Let's not talk about it, let's suppress it.
Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
Some people try to say that homosexuality is "natural"... animals do it in nature. Well animals kill each other for food in nature also, But the verse above says this is "unnatural".
Rom 1:27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
Rom 1:28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
Rom 1:30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
I think God can forgive any sin. I think normally He gives us hundreds (thousands?) of opportunities to repent of sin. But some people don't want to repent. So it says here in verse 28 above
that He eventually gives "them over to a depraved mind". King James says a "reprobate mind". A mind that is set in it's ways and will not be changed.
Men with men, women with women, committing unnatural acts. Having lust for one another. Although there are some people who call themselves Christians who practice these things
verse 30 above says they are actually "haters of God".
Rom 1:32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
I find it somewhat amazing this was written 2,000 years ago, but yet it was already known that some people wouldn't only do those things, but approve of others doing it was well.
So even if you yourself aren't doing it, but merely approve others doing it... you are just as guilty. I believe this is why it's so important to Satan and the world society to get us all to approve of it.
I didn't include Genesis 19 here, but I believe the story of Sodom and Gomorrah reveals how God feels about homosexuality.
Gen 19:24; Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven,
There are churches who ask the question.. "Why would God hate people who love each other?" He doesn't hate them, in fact we are told to love one another.
I love plenty of men, I love my sons, my father (before he was deceased), men I work with, men in my church. But that doesn't make me a homosexual. I don't sleep with them, I don't have sex with them.
On the other hand, there are men (and women) who sleep with people of the same sex, they don't even really know. Much less love. It's all about physical pleasure.. sex. It has nothing to do with love.
Those churches are asking the wrong question. Instead of finding an excuse to support people who continue to sin.. they should be asking them if they are aware of the eternal consequences of living in sin.
1Cor 6:9; Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
1Cor 6:10; nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
1Thes 4:3; For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;
1Thes 4:4; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
1Thes 4:5; not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;
1Thes 4:6; and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you.
1Thes 4:7; For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification.
1Thes 4:8; So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.
