How Can We Know We Are Saved?
The Word of God tells us that “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” (1 John 1:5-2:2)
Then Romans 10:9 tells us plainly that if we “confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead, we will be saved.”
If we admit we are sinners separated from God, and that God so loved the world that He sent Jesus Christ, His only Son, to die on the cross for those sins, that God raised Jesus from the dead and that God will raise all those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, if we believe these things then we are saved.
But someone says, “Yeah, but I don’t feel saved.”
Billy Graham once said, “A lot of people believe they are saved only if they have some powerful emotion or overwhelming feeling. However, every Christian has times when feelings are not strong, no matter what our experiences may have been in the past. But it is not our feelings that save us -- it is Christ [that saves us].”
Now consider these great words from Charles Spurgeon, “My hope lives not because I am not a sinner, but because I am a sinner for whom Christ died; my trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, He is my righteousness. My faith rests not upon what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what He has done, and in what He is now doing for me.”
