How did you know that you wanted to become a pastor, minister, revernd and what not? I have been entertaining the idea for awhile now. My father ion law is a minister but gave it up to be a police officer. He has said that he would be upset if I became one because he believes that I am not able to do it. THis does upset me but I know he is entitled to his opinion. I have had my ups and downs when going through school. I was a pretty bad alcoholic for a while but have been sober for 5 years now. The bottom line on his comments come from the fact that he doesn't like me in general. However, I am just wondering if any of you have some advice?

Hello Waiting,

I am not a pastor or have plans to but this I do know - if the Lord puts something in your heart, go towards that goal and do it to the best of your ability. He will open the doors or even close them. Just trust in Him alone.

Don't worry about the past. If you have given it all to Jesus, it is already covered. You will be in my prayers Waiting. Remember, the Lord has a plan for you - a hope and a future. God bless you.

Best wishes,
Snowrose

Sister, the Holy Spirit will put it in your heart the plans He has for you. Do not be discouraged. Also, only GOD can tell you what He has set for you, not your father in a law or anyone else. Paul was a murderer of Christians, GOD used him.

God bless

I think it depends on what you mean by 'entertaining the idea'. Do you believe the Lord is directing you into the ministry to be a pastor or leader?

It really is irrelevent to what any person is saying to you , it's what is God saying, what are you hearing from God?

Being a pastor or reverend isn't meant to be something we decide just like we choose a career or occupation. It is a calling or a leading by the Holy Spirit.

I praise God that you are sober now, and if you are lead into a position of leadership such as a pastor, be prepared that others may bring up your past. Even though you and I know that Jesus Christ forgives us and cleanses us from sin, people sometimes are not so forgiving and may use your past against you. However your story could be used as a wonderful testimony to the power of Jesus Christ.

Ask yourself questions why you think this is something you are leaning towards. Is it to Glorify God, to further the Kingdom of heaven? Spend time in prayer and seeking God in this matter and He will direct your path.

1Corinthians 10:31
"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do
do it all for the glory of God."

I do want to become a reverend. I believe that I would be very good at it. I want to focus on youth ministry. I suppose my distraction and doubt comes from my in laws.
