How to deal with guilt

Guilt is definitely tied to our conscience, but it is an emotion that only trips when we are likely over competent or complacent.

Those two emotions infer that we are either feeling good (Competent) or bad (Complacent) about what our little voice tells us.

Both inference's are incorrect, and continued over use of those emotions is why guilt is necessary.

Guilt can only be dealt with once the conscience is tasked as a primary emotion, which is being conscientious.

ADJECTIVE
  1. wishing to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly:
"a conscientious man, he took his duties very seriously"
    synonyms: diligent ·
    [more]

  2. relating to a person's conscience:
"the individual is denied even the opportunity to break the law on conscientious grounds"

When we wrestle with guilt its not the emotion that is the problem....When we mess up there are three main spirits that attack us...They are Guilt, Shame, and Blame....How do we fight them and win?....Repent, confess our sin...
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Then when these spirits attack we can simply bind them and send them back to the pit. Notice? He cleanses us from all unrighteousness....He restores us to righteousness....

I think guilt is mostly a matter of conscience. Understand what happened, think on it, think on why it happened and what you can do to improve. Then move forward. Of course some things just take time.

So where does your conscience learn what's right and what's wrong? It has to have a baseline in order to keep itself in line....

The reason why people feel guilty is because they are!! Our conscience should always be obeyed, and some who have not obeyed their conscience have made their faith "shipwrecked"

1Ti 1:19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,

The reason why we can know the difference between good, and evil is because we inherited that ability from Adam, and Eve when they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good, and evil.
Our conscience helps us so we can know when have done evil that needs to be repented of.

All of the Apostles lived their lives with a "clear" conscience before God. They served God with a "clear" conscience!!

Act 23:1 And looking intently at the council, Paul said, "Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day."

Heb 13:18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.

2Ti 1:3 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.

The blood of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can clear guilt, and shame that comes from our conscience.

You said "Our conscience should always be obeyed, and some who have not obeyed their conscience have made their faith "shipwrecked"

Is that like following your heart? Define conscience

Our "conscience" is the voice of our spirit (heart)
Our faith becomes "shipwreck" because we can not have faith when our heart is condemning ourselves. It would be the same thing as being "double minded"

1John 3:20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.
1John 3:21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;
1Johnn 3:22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. (ESV)

1John 3:20 Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything.
1John 3:21 Dear friends, if we don't feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.
1John 3:22 And we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Him. (NLT)

"Our conscience is the voice of our spirit (heart)" You say....Ok That explains how it can be seared so we can not handle the truth.....
But the Word says; Jeremiah 17:9 (CJB)
9 “The heart is more deceitful than anything else
and mortally sick. Who can fathom it?

Mark 7:21 (CJB)
21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come forth wicked thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,....
Why should a Christian follow his heart?
The heart is '
  1. the centre and seat of spiritual life
    1. the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavours

    2. of the understanding, the faculty and seat of the intelligence

    3. of the will and character

    4. of the soul so far as it is affected and stirred in a bad way or good, or of the soul as the seat of the sensibilities, affections, emotions, desires, appetites, passion

The heart will lead you astray every time...Yet it will remember every time you followed it and poke you with the memory, condemning and shaming and blaming.

Brother what happens when a person becomes "born again"? What part of this new man becomes new? What did God say he would do with our old heart?

Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Did God give us a "wicked" heart?

Guilt is definitely tied to our conscience

I disagree, conscience is attribute of our spirit man, while guilt is satanic, you sinned you rush to repent ASAP and be done with it, "neither i condemn you, go and sin no more" Jesus is no drama queen, guilt is only good for nurturing our low self esteem.

We should follow our conscience only as it directs us to God. This is similar to the Apostle Paul's admonition:

"Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" I Cor 11:1

What may be understood in Paul's words is: "if I don't follow Christ, don't follow me". Is the conscience of every person leading the way to Jesus? The answer, unfortunately, is mostly certainly, NO!

Every person tends to follow his own heart or conscience, but too often that can be an evil way.

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" Isa 5:20

"Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;" I Tim 4:2

There is a pathway to walk, but not even all believers always walk on it:

"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Heb 9:14

God does not condemn us, but our "heart" will when we miss the mark. Condemnation, and guilt comes from the heart (spirit) of man not his "brain"
We are to love the Lord our God with all of our "heart", "mind", "soul", and "strength". The heart is NOT the brain or mind.

1Jn 3:20 Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything. (NLT)

1Jn 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. (KJV)

1Jn 3:20 Whenever our hearts in [tormenting] self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemn us. [For we are in God's hands.] For He is above and greater than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [nothing is hidden from Him]. (AMP)

1Jn 3:20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. (ESV)

1Jn 3:20 But even if we don't feel at ease, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.
(CEV)
