The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace. Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, but sin overthrows the wicked. Proverbs 13:5-6 ESV

You may not see the impact of sin in your life today or even tomorrow. Yet sin will gradually lead you off course over time. It’s very rare that someone stumbles into a large moral failure. Rather, sin grows over time like taking a few wrong turns on the road. Today’s reading from Proverbs cuts right to the point that leaving the way of truth and righteousness will result in shame and disgrace one day. Such a fate may not be apparent right now based on your choices, but their negative impact only grows over time.

Clinging to God today is your best action for future security and peace. By fearing God’s power over your life and obeying God’s laws, you’ll become free from the stress and uncertainty that come with leading a double life that ignores God’s laws. If you live in obedience to God’s teachings, you’ll never have to worry about being found out as a fraud or having a secret life exposed. It’s best to confess your sins today and to ask for God’s help in taking a step forward in living a blameless, holy life.

Prayer: Lord, help me to remember that you know my thoughts intimately and forgive me graciously so that I can live without guilt and shame as I obey Your laws.
