Terrorism is to terrorize human beings. Terrorist activity is brutal, and usually results in death of human beings. There are different types of terrorist activities. War is one form of terrorist activity, in which, one side terrorizes the other side by violent methods; which usually results in killing of a large number of human beings, and puts fear and terror in many more. Abortion is another form of terrorism. This is the most common form of terrorism, in which approximately 1.5 million babies are killed each year in the USA. During an abortion, the baby is brutalized, killed and extracted from its mother’s womb. In partial birth abortion the baby’s brain is sucked out and the body is then torn apart. Abortion is also the worst form of terrorist activity; and a disgrace to any nation that allows it, for the following reasons. 1) This form of terrorism is killing more human beings than any other form of terrorism or war. 2) The terrorist activity is aimed at helpless innocent babies. 3) The mothers (who are supposed to protect the babies) are the initiators of the killing process. 4) Doctors, who are supposed to save lives, do the killing. In this form of terrorism therefore, the terrorists are members of our own family and community. Another form of terrorism consists of attacking civilian targets with the intent of terrorizing and killing human beings. This form is conventionally referred to as “terrorism”. It is usually done with political motive. In the following paragraphs we will deal with this form of terrorism.
There are many reasons why people get involved in terrorist activity. One of the most common reasons is to achieve a political goal. When people want to achieve a political goal, and they are unable to achieve it by negotiations, they turn to violent methods. If they have a strong military, they use conventional war to achieve their political goal. If the other party is significantly stronger than them, they realize that they can’t win the war by conventional method. They therefore, use non-conventional methods to attack the other side. To attack civilian target is common method employed by them, because, they are unlikely to get resistance from such targets. When the security of such targets is enhanced, making it difficult to attack such targets, they use suicide bombing, as a method to the attack the targets. It is not difficult to find volunteers for this method for the following reasons. 1) The volunteers feel that they are fighting war for a noble cause. Their goal is to either regain their homeland or to dissuade powerful nations from helping their enemies; or to take revenge (what they call as retaliation) for atrocities committed against them and their families. 2) The terrorists are often poor and without a job. Oftentimes, their enemy had destroyed whatever little they had. They therefore, feel that they do not have hope in this world. The following story describes how an innocent 15-year boy can evolve into a terrorist. The boy lives in a refugee camp where people openly glorify terrorism. A year early, an enemy rocket killed his father and brother, while they were returning home after a shopping trip. Now, he returns home to find out that an enemy bomb killed his mother and destroyed his house. He has nowhere to stay. He has nothing to look forward to. He is full of anger and hatred for his enemy. He therefore, decides to become a suicide bomber.
It is impossible to uproot terrorism by violent methods, because, such methods generate hate, which in turn creates more terrorists. It is also impossible to make the country totally free of terrorist attacks, because, the terrorists have an unlimited number of civilian targets and they are willing to die for their cause. Furthermore, although it may be possible to destroy some terrorist networks; it is impossible to destroy all networks, because, there are new networks, continually being formed. In addition, there are many small and unknown networks that have the capability to strike.
When we see pictures of terrorists beheading innocent people, we are full of anger and hate. We feel that we need to do something to stop this evil. The first thought that comes to our mind, is to destroy such people. In fact, some people have succumbed to such emotions, and killed terrorists (abortionists) who dismantled and killed unborn babied by abortions. However, this does not solve the basic problem of terrorism. It actually increases the problem, because, those who take this action against the terrorists, themselves become killers.
Only love can solve the problem of terrorism and brings us peace, because, only love can break the cycle of hate and revenge. Since love unconditionally cares about all, it should assists the other side overcome their problems, without getting into the blaming game. The stronger side, for example, should provide the weaker side with humanitarian help, without any string attached. This will build trust between the two sides. Then, it will be possible to negotiate a just solution. Since true justice is love, a just solution will be to give more to the other side, and demand less for one’s own side. This will further increase the trust between the two sides and bring peace in the region. Although one may end up giving more to the other side, in the long run both sides will gain, because, absence of war will bring major savings of life and resources. The solution outlined herein, may not sound very practical, especially if there is centuries of animosity and bloodshed. However, because God is love, we must not underestimate the power of love. In addition, none of the other methods have been successful.
