How to walk by Faith?

Hi all

I really would like to know how to walk by faith..and not by feelings.

It all started when once I was going through a very hard time spiritually and at that time I saw Jesus holding me in His Arms - was beautiful...

and since then I've been yearning to have that again and been walking by feeling+faith all mixed up ( not sure if I am making sense). I've been confessing the Word to get to whatever I need instead of me being on the receiving end. Like I yearn to feel something from God. Like I'll be saying " Lord let me feel your love" or someting like that...

So God has been showing me about how Abrahem believed God.

So I'm wondering how to do it - I mean I even asked my sister " God is with you whether you feel Him or not" and she said "yes"! so thats the hard part I guess, I mean I do believe in God but come to that truth that He is always with me and I'm not supposed to feel Him in any way. I mean praying in tongues - I want that feeling of annointing to come which I don't think we are supposed to go for...

so these days Iam doing my best to tell my self that "God is there whether you feel Him or not" but even then I get annoyed and frustrated at the fact that I'm not able to walk by faith and will I ever...

it comes easy for others I guess.. but here I'm struggling..and my mind is tensed. basically, how I can shift myself from feelings to faith?

any help would really help

God Bless you

First of all, in 2 Cor 5:7 we must needs understand that this was added, and is not scripture, for this cause is it in parenthasis. But as for faith, faith only comes by hearing the Word of God, and by none other; and if we seek for more faith, then we do more abundantly hear the Word of God.

God has given all a measure of faith and even the tiniest amount can move mountains. You are not lacking in faith.
Scripture gives two way to build that faith:

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
As we read the Word and the Holy Spirit gives us revelation in it we apply those things; the knowledge in the Word allows us to apply this faith in even more areas and our faith grows.
Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
As we pray int he Spirit and generally commune with God we began to see more of His beauty, glory, majesty, love and power. Our confidence is less and less on our earthly abiliteis and circumstance and in an ever increasing amount our confidence lay completely on Him. It is easier to truth (have faith in) that which you know.

These are good and necessary but understand this even more so:

2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

So He has given you a measure of faith and if applied it is more than enough to overcome your situations.
My personal experience tells me this:
I can struggle with a fear or problem in my own strength and more than likely fail. At the very least victory is temporary.
Or I can believe God t His promise, call on Him for help and quite simply put one foot in front of the other trusting Him to carry me through.
One way leads to exhaustion and frustration the other to victory.
Simple child like faith is just that; believing that He is there for you and will not let you down.
As we walk by faith we began to see how He moves on our behalf and we are encouraged to press in all the more.
You are in my prayers my friend.
Many blessings in His wonderful Name,
your brother Larry.

Hello Prereeta, a walk of faith means many things to many people, but to God it only means one thing. Although it is not easy it is still very simple. I think I like this wording best for what Paul is trying to communicate to those faced with a simular delima as yours.

Gal. 1:1-6
Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.
I am emphatic about this. The moment any one of you submits to circumcision or any other rule-keeping system, at that same moment Christ's hard-won gift of freedom is squandered. I repeat my warning: The person who accepts the ways of circumcision trades all the advantages of the free life in Christ for the obligations of the slave life of the law.
I suspect you would never intend this, but this is what happens. When you attempt to live by your own religious plans and projects, you are cut off from Christ, you fall out of grace. Meanwhile we expectantly wait for a satisfying relationship with the Spirit. For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love.

Hi Pre

First thank you for being so honest....I know that I have been in just the same boat as you, and I guess a lot of other people have too. I think the problem is that nowadays we do often rely on 'feelings' too much.

I know that God expects us to search with our mind too. I know this is an area I have shied away from, but our faith does make sense intellectually too, it is totally logical and helps us make sense of a big and confusing universe. There are some great books to help you go deeper with your mind too as well as your heart. I guess you may have already read Philip Yancey - What's so amazing about grace' and 'The Jesus I never Knew' are really excellent and speak truth. No replacement for the Word of course but God wants us to learn from other Christians.

This is the other place where I know I tend to make a mistake. I have a church but I lean towards a very independent, indivdual faith. However God has called us all to be part of his Church. I hope you have Christian brothers and sisters around you who you can share with, be encouraged by, and even be rebuked by - in love, as Paul described (Hebrews 10:24-25). The epistles don't often talk of "I" but "we". I guess this place is great from that point of view.

Finally being active in proclaiming the Good News really does make a difference. Speaking words of truth writes those words deeper in one's heart. Something else I know I need to do more!

I don't know if any of the above applies to you. If so that's great, praise God that I have been able to help. If not please know that I will pray for you and your walk and that there will be more 'mountaintop' times (Luke 9: 28-36) with God to come...be sure of that :)

yay... true... no wonder Jesus Himself said in:

Luke 10:27 - He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

mind is specified...:shade:

There are some great books to help you go deeper with your mind too as well as your heart. I guess you may have already read Philip Yancey - What's so amazing about grace' and 'The Jesus I never Knew' are really excellent and speak truth. .

Amen... I already read those books twice. It's really great...

Praise God for His precious gifts... His love, His grace, His mercy... His very life..

God bless Zoop and hope Prer is going alright now in God's mighty hands. Amen

I agree a lot here on your post.

In Christ,

. .. funny thought just struck me. . .while reading the NEW POST section these two toppics where on top of each other in Counselling . . .

"Holy Spirit have your way" rizen1 Counselling

"How to walk by Faith?" Prereeta Counselling

and I was thinking. . .well . . that might just be the clou

does that make sense?

To walk by Faith . . .is to let the Holy Spirit have His way

What to do?

Hay now, to walk by faith is a very tall order that the Lord has placed upon us, but one that we can accomplish.

1 First we have to get reed of self, another tall order

Trust in Jehovah with all thy heart, And lean not upon thine own understanding: In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he will direct thy paths.
Prov 3:5-6 (ASV)

2 We must know the charactor of the God which we serve

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.
John 3:16-17 (ASV)

3 This is a thought, people say all the time that we`re` not to respond, live or act upon our emotion, and in general I believe this to be true, but not all the time, look at these examples and figure for yourself:

Jesus wept
John 11:35 (ASV)

and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matt 3:17 (ASV)

Low and behold I believe these are cases where emotions were envoled. As fare as our emotions are consered, I believe that we`re not to let them pull us out of the will of God, and these emotion will better serve you when their provoked and delievered by the Spirit, such as are the cases when the fruits of the Spirit are upon us in their full Glory

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law. And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof. If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk.
Gal 5:22-25 (ASV)

Hope I`ve been helpfu, and may the Lord Jesus bless you

Oh Pre, dear I miss you!;-)

May I share this verse to you:

Colossians 3:2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

By doing so, you'll not be easily disturbed by doubts and confusions. Making ourselves busy in heavenly things smoothly leads us to a life full of love and faith in God alone ;-)

Be ye blessed beautiful one!:romantic:
