And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name [was] Simeon, and this man [was] just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Luke 2:25 NKJV
There was nothing fancy or flashy about Simeon and Anna. They weren’t out in front of the people as leaders, and yet God saw them. That they are remembered eternally in God’s Word tells us how much God values those who serve Him because of who He is and not for the praise of men.
These two quiet servants loved God with all their hearts, trusting Him through thick and thin, regardless of practicality or popularity. It’s easy for us to feel guilty reading about such people because our desire to be recognized for our service gets in the way. But any guilt should prompt us to seek God for who He is and not what He can do for us.
Jesus said in Matthew 6 that our private devotion to God will be rewarded. Anchored in Him privately, we can serve Him publicly without wanting the spotlight. The accounts of Simeon and Anna remind us that He sees our quiet service to Him, our heartfelt worship, and He will reward us in His way and His timing just for faithfully waiting on Him.
Prayer: God, You alone are worthy of all my praise and devotion. Cleanse me of any desire for the spotlight and fill me with a passion to know You better.
