Misery, Hunger and Heat: Families Struggle to Recover from Ike
Tens of thousands of Houston and Galveston-area families are trying to put their lives back together despite waterlogged homes and apartments, mildewed carpet and spoiled food. They are asking Feed The Children for help, and they will continue to need our help in the critical days ahead.
Feed The Children has already provided dozens of trucks filled with relief supplies to devastated Texas families, and we will continue to help children and families until their lives are restored.
More than 2 million in Houston, the nation's fourth largest city, lost electricity -- and whatever groceries these families had are rotten by now. Low-income families, especially in North Houston and Fifth Ward, have nowhere to turn. They are scared and unsure of what will become of them and their children."Sometimes the aftermath of the storm is worse than the storm itself."
--Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas
You can help us continue to supply essential items like food, blankets, bottled water and cleaning products to these hurricane victims who are sorting through the wreckage of their lives.
