Hi ,

I have a situation that I am dealing with and have been praying about for years. It was suggested to me that I try hypno-therapy from a reputable hypnotherapist. Ive been doing some research on it and I honestly don't see anything wrong with it. Ive been trying to look at the subject biased and with an open mind, however I want to use wisdom as to not jeopardize my spirit or faith. The method I was considering was hypnotherapy CD's. I have listened to them closely and the therapist speaks good and scuccessful words into your life. Which is what the Bible encourages us to do ..to speak prosperity over I lives. In additon, it is the same thing that ministers do "You are beautifully and wonderfully made, You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, You are the head and not the tail ..Above and not beneath" It would just seem to me that these hypnotists are just speaking wonderful things into your life. Please give me your thoughts because I know I could be missing something.

Thanks!

You're suppose to speak these truths into your lives with your lips.
Knowing who you are in Christ can be found in the bible.

When you depend on these cd's it robs the Holy Spirit from doing it Job.
The Holy spirit is what should lead us and assure us.

The Holy Spirit is the comforter, not a man made cd.

reading the word and believing the promises God have for us, would help 100%

That cd or any form of hypno-therapy is imitaion to what the Holy Spirit can do. Only God can control us submit and he will do the rest, seek him and he will give you life abundantly.

Thanks so much Rizen for you response and your thoughts. :-) ..I do confess truths with my own lips but others confess over me as well ..like ministers ..those who care for me ect. I certainly don't want to rob the Holy Spirit of working in my life. I suppose I don't feel like I am and don't feel like Im relying on the CD's to give me deliverence. But using them as an aid rather, much like I would use medicine. We rely on the Holy Spirit for healing but use medicines and surgery through people as aids. However, all glory goes to the Father.

I don't agree with Christians getting hypnosis, I also did some research and found the following information:

Question: "Should a Christian ever get involved with hypnosis?"

Answer: Hypnosis is problematic for a Christian for several reasons:

1) The fruit of the Spirit is self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). As we follow the Spirit’s lead, He will give us the power to better control our own selves. Hypnosis involves the transfer of control, away from ourselves to another person.

2) We are to yield ourselves—body, soul, and spirit—to God. Romans 6:12-13 gives us the formula for overcoming sin: “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God . . . and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” It’s about control—as Christians, we can let sin control us, or we can let God control us. (See also Romans 6:16-23; 1 Corinthians 6:9-12; and James 4:6-7.) The scriptural formula leaves no room for hypnosis (yielding ourselves to a fellow human being).

3) Hypnosis leads to an altered state of consciousness in which the mind is very susceptible to outside suggestion. That susceptibility is what the hypnotist needs in order to modify the behavior of his subject. However, the very word susceptible should concern us. Scripture says to be watchful and “vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). The hypnotist is not the only one who wants to modify our behavior; Satan also wants to do some modifying, and we should be wary of giving him any opportunity to make his suggestions.

4) Hypnotism is often promoted as a simple way of “refocusing” ourselves and finding the answer within us. As believers in Christ, our focus is to be on our Savior, not on ourselves or anything else (Hebrews 12:2). We know that the answers to not lie within us (Romans 7:18); the solution we need is found in Christ (Romans 8:2).

5) Many of the techniques used in hypnosis are shared by mystical, philosophical, and religious systems, including the occult. The “father of hypnotism,” Franz Anton Mesmer, was himself a practitioner of the occult—his method of inducing a trance was very similar to the way a medium conducts a séance. Hypnotism, along with Yoga and Transcendental Meditation, has always been linked to spiritual darkness. The newfound respectability of these practices has not changed their underlying nature.

Thank you, I wanted to mention the name of the website but wasn't sure if I was allowed too - I don't want to get into trouble.

Blessings!

The article Ann posted is a great explanation. I would never condone or promote hypnosis. To me, its dangerous and dependant on people for deliverance of an issue(s) isntead of relying solely on GOD. To me, its an insult to GOD as if we're saying "your not powerful enough to help me". Aid or no aid, GOD is your deliverer and your aid, your helper and healer.

Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate all of you taking the time to help me with this. You have definitely given me something to think about and pray over.

Prior to posting this question, I did research this subject and I also read the exerpt explained on GotQuestions. I suppose initially I approached the article with a closed mind because I completley looked over Galations 5:22-23, which is the scripture that benefited me the most.

The very last thing I want to do is insult God; Im still struggling with questions concerning this subject but I will definitely continue to pray for revelation.

Thanks again Rizen, Ann and Chad!!
